Maryland Terrapins at the Xfinity Center

The Xfinity Center opened in 2002, replacing Cole Field House as the Terrapins' home court. The arena holds nearly 18,000 seats, nearly a quarter of which are designated for a student section that wraps around the court and runs 10 rows deep. It's one of the largest student sections in the Big Ten, and the Terps enjoy a healthy homecourt advantage partly because of it, winning the majority of their games in College Park since the opening of the Xfinity Center.

Maryland Terrapins Men's Basketball History

Under Gary Williams, coach from 1989 to 2011, the Terrapins established themselves as one of the best programs in college basketball. Williams' tenure included a sparkling stretch during which Maryland made the tournament 11 years running, reaching the Final Four in consecutive seasons and winning a title in 2002. That championship team featured the heady backcourt of Juan Dixon and Steve Blake and an intimidating frontcourt of Chris Wilcox and Lonny Baxter. In 22 seasons, Williams recorded 461 victories against 252 losses.

There's more to Maryland history than the Williams era. Before Williams there was Lefty Driesell, who coached from 1970 to 1986 and who casts a long shadow over the college game. It was Driesell who began the Midnight Madness tradition with a workout just after midnight on October 15, the first day college teams were permitted to practice. And it was Driesell who coached the Terps in the 1974 ACC final against North Carolina State, considered one of the greatest college hoops games ever. Maryland, with a roster featuring six future NBA draft picks, lost in overtime, 103-100, to high-flying David Thompson and the Wolfpack. That Terps team is one of the finest ever to not appear in the NCAA tournament. The loss to NC State led the NCAA to expand its signature event, allowing for at-large bids and tourney berths for more than one team per conference.

Driesell was a strong recruiter, bringing to College Park such stars as Len Elmore, John Lucas, Albert King, Buck Williams and Len Bias. His record during his time on campus was 348-159.

A founding member of the ACC, Maryland left the conference in 2014 to join the Big Ten.

    Best seats I've ever had

The seats were the best I've ever had in my life. They were front row center. I could just about touch the refs. (Not that I'd want to)

Baltimore did it right. The Terps game at Royal Farms was a great experience and should be an annual event.

    Terps bball

by Anonymous on 12/26/15Royal Farms Arena (formerly Baltimore Arena) - Baltimore

It was a good game. Ticket was 20 dollars - upper deck. Problem was after other charges the 20 dollar seat was over 30...too much for a seat 5 rows from top of upper deck! Plus The Arena doesn't even have restrooms or concessions on top floor. Had to walk down a flight of stairs.

Good view & game. Scalping needs to stop.

by mkrav on 12/22/15Royal Farms Arena (formerly Baltimore Arena) - Baltimore

The game was great. For being in the upper deck, the view of the game is almost like your right on the floor. Unfortunately the arena is out of date. I had to stand outside for 15 minutes to wait for someone and in that time I was asked by scalpers about 25 times if I was selling my tickets. This reeeeaaaallly needs to be policed. It was downright annoying and nobody should have to deal with that with the price of tickets and all of the fees.

    Good game but bad venue!

by JoelBarry on 12/22/15Royal Farms Arena (formerly Baltimore Arena) - Baltimore

The "Royal Farms Arena" is an outdated, non-functional and obsolete sports venue. The game was good but the arena distracted from the game. Old seats, obstructive railings, bad bathrooms and long corridor walks.

Royal Farms Arena is a good venue for basketball!

by Terpsfanjoe on 12/22/15Royal Farms Arena (formerly Baltimore Arena) - Baltimore

The Royal Farms Arena is a good venue for basketball. We had seats in the 200 level section and they were very good seats. We parked next door in the Republic Parking System and they had a door to the Arena. Our seats were right there. Great!

    Obstructed view

by gregmac15 on 12/22/15Royal Farms Arena (formerly Baltimore Arena) - Baltimore

After buying my ticket weeks ago and picking the center court view in the 200 level I arrived to find a camera stand erected in the middle of my section completely blocking my view of one of the baskets from the foul line to the end line. I had pretty much accepted that I would probably be standing in the aisle the whole game in order to see anything but was then I noticed an event staff person come out of the tunnel with a fistful of tickets handing them to people. I went to her and asked if they were moving people from behind the cameras and she said only directly behind them. After a couple minutes of convincing her that from my seat I couldn't see half of the game she rolled her eyes and gave me a new seat, which was at least on the floor under the one basket. Not the greatest place to watch from but better than where I started

The seats were great and the people in our section were great sports fans as we were all there to cheer Maryland on and watch the game. We enjoyed the event.
