About

Austin, Texas roots rock group Uncle Lucius was formed in the early '00s, and amassed a loyal fanbase initially by playing open-mic nights around the state's capital before growing into a hard-working national touring band.

The group came to be in 2002 when frontman Kevin Galloway decided he didn't want to continue pursuing a career in banking in East Texas, and relocated to Austin to pursue his passion for music. Galloway began performing concerts with Hal Vorpahl, with whom he shared a love of classic country music and an affinity for artists such as Willie Nelson. The duo then expanded their ranks to include guitarist Mike Carpenter and drummer Jason Armstrong. Uncle Lucius quickly became a jam band mainstay within the Austin music scene.

The band self-released their debut album Something They Ain't in 2006, and toured regionally to support the album. After Armstrong left the band and was replaced by Josh Greco, they released the full-length Pick Your Head Up at the end of 2009. They gained even more traction with the release of their 2012 album And You Are Me, which included the RIAA certified Platinum single "Keep the Wolves Away."

Following the release of their fourth album The Light, the band announced they were going their separate ways in 2018. But they reunited in 2023, announcing a series of tour dates and the potential for new music.
