This daunting symphony/choral work by Carl Orff, is a perennial favorite among concert audiences, and the performance by UCLA Chorus and orchestra, along with a children's chorus, was a delight. The singing was precise, the orchestra impressive, and the soloists were emotionally engaged. I would fault only the pace of the bibit section, which, instead of growing more frenzied as drunkenness progressed, started and stayed at such a quick pace that there was nowhere to take it. This diminished the humor of the piece, in my view. Chris Pagano Grandparent of a chorus member. Oakland, CA
Loved everything about this concert. The Soloists, The Phil, and choral group.
It was a great introduction to this work that was written but Verdi in honor of the Italian poet Allesando Messina. I felt like I was transported to the opera house in Milan . The voices of the four singers were so pleasing. The conductor seemed to being the best out of everyone. I will remember this performance for a long time.
The Chorale and Chamber Singers presented a wonderful holiday concert with songs for many diverse attendees. The singers, soloists, pianist, and director are all very talented and obviously enjoy what they do.
This concert was a mix of African American Spirituals and songs of American heritage. The energy and passion of the directors was evident in the selection of Circus Band which included members of the UCLA cheerleading squad. Camptown Races included horserace and a cow for a thoroughly delightful presence. It wasn't all fun and games as the combined UCLA University Chorus and Chorale gave a stirring performance of Battle Hymn of the Republic and Song of Peace.
