Tyson Fury in the Ring

When Tyson Fury stepped into the ring to fight heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko in late 2015, he wasn't supposed to win. Sure, the British boxer was 24-0 coming into the fight, but Klitschko had a stranglehold on multiple heavyweight titles for 10 years. And this fight wasn't in Fury's native England, it was in Dusseldorf, Germany, further stacking the odds against him. 

But as soon as the bell rang, the nearly 6-foot-9-inch Fury showed his class against the champ. He connected hard in the fourth round, landed a devastating haymaker in Round 9, and eventually won the fight in a unanimous decision, claiming the WBA, IBF, IBO, and WBO heavyweight titles. 

The legend of Tyson "Gypsy King" Fury was cemented with that fight, and he's shown confident pomp and flair ever since, reminiscent of heavyweight boxing's heyday. Embattled in procedural and personal controversy outside of the ring, Fury has since been stripped of his titles, but he made a comeback in 2018 with victories against Sefer Seferi and Francisco Planeta. 

Fury's rise, fall, and now enigmatic rebirth from the ashes saw him claim his first-ever draw in a controversial clash with Deontay Wilder at L.A.'s Staples Center in December, and the next step for Fury will have millions of eyes on it. Fury's sights are set on reclaiming his titles, and 2019 holds the key to the future for the towering fighter, who's helping to make heavyweight boxing relevant again.

Originally from Manchester, England, Fury is the quintessential British boxer, who also represented Ireland as an amateur as a nod to his family's Irish heritage. He's decidedly a Gypsy, now living in Los Angeles. And while "Gypsy King" is his prevailing nickname, he's also been called "2 Fast" and "The Furious One."
