About

TUNE-YARDS IN CONCERT:

Tune-Yards, the experimental pop project of Merril Garbus, recently received one of the highest honors in indie rock: an invitation to join Arcade Fire on their 2014 Reflektor Tour. There's little question as to why Tune-Yards was a top pick for the tour — an inspired and eclectic performer, Garbus creates live drum loops on the fly at her live shows, layering in her unique vocals, ukelele, and various samples to create otherworldly pop masterpieces. With third album Nikki Nack hitting shelves just in time for the tour, Tune-Yards will be in top form as fans both new and old catch her at her biggest shows to date.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born and raised in New York City, Tune-Yards frontwoman Merril Garbus worked as a puppeteer and ukulele player before releasing her 2009 debut album Bird-Brains. Following the release, she relocated to Oakland to join bassist Nate Brenner, her partner in Tune-Yards, for 2011 sophomore album Whokill.  The album was a hit with critics, topping year-end lists and garnering the project national attention that resulted in songs like "Fiya" and "Gangsta" making their way into TV and commercials. In 2014, Gurbus returned to the studio to record third album Nikki Nack, which she will preview for fans at her live shows as opening act on Arcade Fire's 2014 Reflektor Tour.

    Awesome shows

    by I. P. on 4/6/23

Saw them in St Louis at Delmar Hall and then a few days later at a Chicago Street Festival. They were great at both places.

    Masked and distanced concert

by Bri on 8/10/21Neptune Theatre - Seattle

Was very impressed at the mask compliance throughout the venue although I didn't know it was a masked event until I arrived. People gave each other plenty of space in certain sections of the theater if they wanted it. Grateful the concert still went on and appreciate the decision to make it a masked event.

    GLORIOUS

by Seo on 8/10/21Neptune Theatre - Seattle

Loved that the venue was so careful: proof of vaccination and masks for all. Everyone there seemed really happy and supportive of those rules, and the band called out their thanks and the need for us to all keep each other safe. Then Merryl led a really simple kind of grounding exercise for all of us to settle in with the solemn joy and nervousness of the audience being at our first show in about 18 months! And of COURSE, they rocked it. NGL, I had tears rolling down my cheeks while I was scream-singing along and dancing my fool head off! Thank you Neptune Theater, and THANK YOU TUNEYARDS!!!
