Would have liked to know that it was an end of the season recital for a school. When i bought the tickets, i was given the impression that it was a professional show. It didn't say anywhere that they were students.
Though the program was a bit long, the dancers all performed beautifully. The costumes also were lovely. Allowing the young children present to go up on stage after the performance to dance with the cast was a very special bonus, enjoyed by all.
I attended this version of the Nutcracker expecting to be charmed by its regional theme. Instead I was disappointed in the sets, costumes and especially the quality of the dancing. This is a student - based production and the choreograhy is basic at best and often times out of sync. I wanted to like it but did not think the story was easy to understand or cohesive. My advice is to stick to the classic renditions. Did not think it was a good value for the money.
I have seen The Nutcracker Ballet now 5 times. I have always enjoyed it. I now take my daughters to see this beautiful ballet. I was not impressed with the how some of the costumes and themes were portrayed. However, my boyfriend attended for the first time and is planning on attending yearly.
A fine mixture of local and national talent. The dancing ranged from cute, to elegant. The music was precise, clear, and well directed. the sets were very nice, and the snow scene well executed. This was my first ballet. I look forward to attending again.
