    Tommy: The Amazing Journey

by PeterTownsendJunior on 6/21/11Burnsville Performing Arts Center - Burnsville

My wife and I enjoyed the production of "Tommy" very much. The music was fantastic and the players were very professional. The story was nicely fleshed out and the characterizations were nicely conceived and performed. This group works hard and it shows. Thanks for the amazing evening.

    Not appropriate for community theater.

How awful to watch a show about an abused child. I was sickened by the first half. What parents would let their children act in that play? Not mine. The music was great. The story is awful!

    Tommy was interesting!

Overall, I did enjoy the show. Some of the actors kinda freaked me out though.

    Tommy is a "Sensation."

by MNCaptain on 6/13/11Burnsville Performing Arts Center--Black Box Theater - Burnsville

Very enjoyable, high energy show. The band was outstanding, and the singers very talented. Very well staged for a "black box" type of production. While slightly different than the original "Rock Opera" by The Who, the changes were minor. The major songs are faithful to the original classics. The performers playing the young Tommy, were especially good in very demanding, for children, roles. The ensemble was very good on all songs, especially Christmas Morning. All in all, a solid, very high energy show.

Wish i could be more positive

by csm0023 on 6/13/11Burnsville Performing Arts Center - Burnsville

The actors tried, but there was virtually no set, almost nothing for costuming, and you just don't change words to the songs! (Or have dialog in a rock opera.)

    Tommy

by LoriKay12 on 5/24/11Burnsville Performing Arts Center - Burnsville

The 4 of us really enjoyed it. It was well done. I liked the whole "low budget" performance without all the scenery and props. Very good show for the money. I would recommend this theater company to my friends and family.

    Tommy

by daveburnsville on 5/23/11Burnsville Performing Arts Center - Burnsville

I was surprised by the content, not very family friendly (we had two 16 year-olds with), but that's my fault for not researching first. There were many issues with the performers microphones that really took away from the performance. The step father's mic did not work for the entire first act. He changed mics for the second act and it was better initially, but then starting causing a very low pitched feedback rumble, and/or cutting out again. Many other performers had issues with their mics cutting out while singing as well. Hopefully they can get these issues figured out for subsequent shows. The performance by the grown-up Tommy was quite good. He did a nice job with eye and facial expressions to sell the part, and he is a talented singer. Both young Tommys also did very well. The performance by the Acid Queen was a little rough. The facility is top notch, and the "Black Box" is small and intimate. You feel like you are on stage.
