About

Tommy Tiernan on Tour

Thanks to his unique observational style and his fearless wit, Tommy Tiernan has become one of Ireland's favorite performers. For more than two decades, he's jumped on every opportunity to introduce his sometimes wildly askew perspective while keeping audiences engaged, delighted and — depending on the night — perhaps a little shocked. Of course, Tiernan wouldn't have it any other way.

Born in Carndonagh in Donegal, Tiernan was raised in Cork and Galway before ending up in Meath, where he attended the same school that produced such comedy greats as Dylan Moran. After beginning his stand-up career at lunchtime shows in the Galway area, the talented upstart performed his first solo show, ‘Stop the Train,' at the Kings Head in Galway City in 1995. The same year, he made his debut on The Stand Up Show, the iconic BBC comedy showcase which he'd later host.

He found a regular home at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, winning Channel 4's So You Think You're Funny newcomer award in 1996, the Perrier Award for best show for ‘Undivine Comedy' in 1998 and the Orange Best of the Fest Award for the Fringe's most popular comedian in 2003. Sold-out tours in Ireland and the U.K. led to high-profile appearances at Montreal's Just for Laughs festivals and successful engagements in the U.S., Australia and New Zealand. In 2009, he made history when he set the Guinness World Record for the longest stand-up comedy show by an individual when he performed for 36 hours and 15 minutes at Nun's Island in Galway.

Tiernan's screen credits range from sitcoms (including the final episode of Father Ted) to films to his best-selling series of live DVDs including 2011's Crooked Man and 2016's Out of the Whirlwind. One of RTE's most popular programs since its debut in early 2017, The Tommy Tiernan Show has earned acclaim with its wildly original approach to the chat-show format. Every Thursday night, Tiernan welcomes a celebrity to the stage, with neither the host nor the audience knowing who to expect until the moment the guest appears. The resulting exchange always becomes a formidable showcase of Tiernan's unmatched improvisational skills.

After starting 2019 with an extraordinary sold-out run at Dublin's iconic Vicar Street, Tiernan brings his ‘Paddy Crazy Horse Tour' to venues all over Ireland and the U.K.

    Disappointing Performance

    by S Hill on 4/4/24

I’m normally a huge Tommy Tiernan fan & have seen him, previously, live in concert & really enjoyed his concerts. But I saw him perform, last night, in the New Theatre & I was quite disappointed. I felt his material was unimaginative- boring in places, overly sexual at times & overall disjointed and not very relatable.

Would see him again and again

by Ayla on 10/20/23Moore Theatre - Seattle

I see Tommy Tiernan as a hilarious philosopher. He connects with and interacts with the crowd. His musings and observations are sensible and insane in equal measure. His content reminds me of George Carlin, Gallagher, and Billy Connolly rolled into one. (I'm probably dating myself.) Add to it his charming Irish accent and I was hooked. I don't know if most 20-somethings would enjoy his comedy, and I don't think he would care that they did or didn't. He's hilarious! I'd see him again and again. Thank you for a fun and memorable evening, Tommy. You left us aching from laughter.

    True comic madness

by Shaun on 10/19/23Moore Theatre - Seattle

From start to finish unbelievable. I’ve been watching him for years but this was the first live show. Tommy is an unaffected artist. He hasn’t been changed over the years by what one should or should not use as your subject matter. He handled a few hackers well with the same spontaneity that flows through the main performance. He didn’t miss a beat with the interruption it just showed how good he is. I’m looking forward to the next time. But what was with the sippy cups/containers for my beer?

    It was good

by The Kildare Man on 5/12/23The Wilbur - Boston

I enjoyed it?, I think he could of connected a little better with Irish Bostonians (Who are just as tough as regular Bostonians) Take a little material from Steve Sweeney 's act, he should visit here more, Spend a little time is places like Green Hill Bakery & Eire Pub (meet the people Tommy)

Tommy Tiernan is an Unbelievable story teller

by Nick Dunbar on 5/12/23The Wilbur - Boston

Tommy did not disappoint, belly laughs from start to finish and took the entire audience with him on a wild ride of stories, jokes and belly laughs. Do yourself a favor and go and see him wherever you can. Up there with Carlin and Connelly as a master storyteller.
