About

When a black man is falsely accused of raping a white woman, a small town in America's Deep South is set alight by the pitiless flames of racial prejudice. Local lawyer Atticus Finch seeks the truth in a lone struggle for justice that inspires his children Scout and Jem and pricks the conscience of a community steeped in hatred and hypocrisy.

Widely acknowledged as one of the greatest novels of all time, Harper Lee's monumental classic of racial tension and childhood interrupted by the ugly confusions of the adult world has lost none of its power to captivate and disturb. Published in the year JFK went to the White House, it caught the mood of the Civil Rights Movement and sold tens of millions of copies worldwide.

Unflinching and unforgettable, To Kill a Mockingbird is a soaring and searing tribute to human dignity and the enduring power of the right words, at the right time, to change hearts and minds for good.

    Absolutely Awesome

My husband and I saw this performance in Louisville, KY on June 21, 2023. We were truly blessed to have Richard Thomas as the lead character. We have both seen the movie several times, and I have read the book. This show was phenomenal! I am searching for it to be shown somewhere else nearby.

    Great adaptation

    by J. W. on 10/16/22

I took my nephew to see it at Paramount theatre in Seattle, Washington. Like most I’ve read the book half a dozen times and likely seen the movie an equal amount. I truly enjoyed the adaptation. I thought the dynamic between Dill, Jim, and Scout was great. Further, how the set was changed between scenes was ingenious. Because the curtain didn’t drop you story flowed seamlessly. If you have a teenager that’s into literature or theatre, it’s worth the price of a ticket to have him or her experience how the story is told.

    Killing a mockingbird not addressed

    by R. B. on 4/2/22

This was a very different perspective on the play, and many things were left out from the book storyline, and I get it, Atticus explanation of why a child learning how use a gun and not shoot at mockingbirds was not included and the way it was introduced until the very end missed the point. Cal is a much bigger character in this version and it was hard to hear the confrontational conversations with Atticus

A Noble Effort for a Great Classic

by GraCarPol on 10/1/14Union County Performing Arts Center Hamilton Stage - Rahway

Some outstanding performances helped this production be enjoyable and hark back to the excellence of the movie. Of course, it's not fair to compare a local production to a Hollywood classic, but when you tackle such a challenge as this, it would be wise to make sure we can hear and understand the actors. The three children with their southern accents were especially hard to understand, and even some of the adults needed to project more. Mayella Ewell and her father brought the second act alive with their courtroom testimony, but Atticus Finch was too mild mannered and didn't not exude the inner strength I was looking for. The set was appropriately simple, but the storm effects were over done. I recommend renting the movie instead.

This small secondary school puts on some of the best performances in this city. They continue to outshine the professional and college theaters. Once again they exceed all expectations.

    To Kill A Mocking Bird

The sound was perfect, the acting was great, the costumes were also above average. I feel the theatre would have been completely sold out had it not been for the ticket price $40.00 was high for a production that was out many times before and up against many other events that evening (i.e. Rent). The show itself was enjoyable to my entire family and I give it two thumbs up for performance and entertainment.
