Great show by Mike Scott and Brother Paul... a stripped down version of the Waterboys but lots of fun!... Enjoyed hearing some of the classics as well as some new material...
Opened up playing new, recent old, covers , sounded great . Band was rocking, couldn't have sounded better, Mike Scott is so versatile and so is the band , not to be missed live or on disc.
Great service, great venue, great music. The Belasco is an older type of theatre, but retains quite a bit of charm and grandeur. I recommend sitting up in the balcony area rather than standing room only on the floor.
I was very familiar with the Waterboys music but I had never seen them in person. Mike Scott is still one of the best songwriters around. He still has a great variety of music styles that are very soothing to the ears. With all the so called "music" that is out there nowadays it's nice to hear his music again. I only have one complaint with the show. I still feel the sax is a vital part of some of his songs and I don't really like the violin trying to replace the sax. If you go back and listen to "A Girl Called Johnny" with the sax, you will definitely noticed the difference. So Mike, 'get that sax and trumpet back, please." But other than that still an awesome group to listen too.
I feel The Waterboys are the most sublime band ever. Mike Scott is definitely into the mystic... Jai Ma
The Belasco theater is an amazing place. Everybody was very nice and laid-back. We saw The Waterboys from the balcony it was a great view and the sound was fantastic. The Waterboys are one of the most rocking bands in existence and Mike Scott is a true poet. I wish I could’ve seen more shows on the store. More people need to know about this band even though they’ve been around since the 80s and have dozens of albums.
One of the best live shows I’ve ever seen the Waterboys were phenomenal! The Belasco very cool intimate Art Deco theatre, easy parking, couldn’t have been better!
It has been over 20 years since we have seen the Waterboys in concert, and we were thoroughly impressed by their performance. Great venue as well.
interesting age-diverse audience but not quite at capacity so I knew there'd not be a poster. No opening act so, being tardy as always, missed a couple of songs. Good solid performance, less focussed on Mike Scott than in past years but barely touched early, Irish-influenced material; the "Kiss" keyboard solo didn't work so well and the drum solo was rather heavy handed but the music was pretty tight and would stand up next to any other, younger Indie band. Odd they took an intermission and the "House Band" in the poster room was a tad effete. Only one song encore but it was, at last, what I'd come for: Whole of the Moon. Good extended version with synchronized audience participation. Another audience member wished they'd played Rivers to the Ocean (?); not familiar with that but wished I'd kept her talking longer. Missed connection?
