The Sun Kings were great. We had a great time singing along and dancing. They sound just like the Beatles. They were very lay back with a great sound. Fun, Fun, Fun

Happy Halloween from The Sun Kings!

by TheMotleyLeppard on 4/4/15The Historic Bal Theatre - San Leandro

This was my second time seeing The Sun Kings. They played about the same amount of time as when I saw them first, close to three hours, plus an intermission. The career-spanning setlist, surprisingly, consisted of a lot more than just what could be called "the hits". They threw in a few covers that the Beatles played frequently back in the Cavern Club and also a couple songs I didn't recognize. What made this a Halloween celebration show was the fact that a) The Sun Kings were in costume, as the Beatles and b) during the intermission, a costume contest for the audience was held. Less people in costume than you'd expect, but interesting. When the band returned after the intermission, they had a piano player onstage with them who they introduced as Father McKenzie. I thought that was great. Overall, the performance was excellent for both sets. The witty banter and brief facts about the songs just added to the experience. Another fantastic show by The Sun Kings!

The Sun Kings - They won't let you down!

by TheMotleyLeppard on 4/3/15The Historic Bal Theatre - San Leandro

This was a special concert, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Beatles' arrival in America. What made it so special, was that, besides being held on the actual date of the original event, The Sun Kings played everything the Beatles released in that entire year. Literally. Every piece of music, from the entire "Hard Day's Night" album, to non-album b-sides like "Matchbox", played in the course of around two and a half, maybe three hours, plus an intermission - and it was amazing! These guys really put on a fantastic show. They don't even look anything remotely like the Beatles, but as anyone who knows about cover bands can tell you, looks are not what's important - unless it happens to be a KISS cover band. The sound is what matters and The Sun Kings can play a pretty perfect-sounding set, complete with each member singing their Beatle-appropriate songs. As in, the drummer sings the songs Ringo Starr originally sang and so on. I enjoyed this show so much, I went back and saw The Sun Kings play again on Halloween - I'll be putting up a review of that one in a few days. Anyway, if these guys are playing near you and you're a Beatles fan, you should at least try to catch it. You won't be disappointed!

by Beejee10 on 12/17/14South Shore Room at Harrah's Lake Tahoe - Stateline

We've been as far away as Liverpool to see Beatle tribute bands, and these guys are the best of the best! We loved seeing them in the showroom in South Lake Tahoe.

    The Sun Kings are FANTASTIC!!!

by King59 on 8/13/13South Shore Room at Harrah's Lake Tahoe - Stateline

The Sun Kings were wonderful. They went through the Beatles albums and all of our favorite songs. Their voices were unbelievable--even better than the Beatles sounded! I want to see them again. If you get the chance, don't hesitate. In my opinion, they could command a higher ticket price. I especially like the fact that they are themselves and don't rely on elaborate costumes (hardly any, in fact) as do some other groups. It was great fun!

This concert had me on my feet with joy!

by BeatlesBeliever on 8/13/13South Shore Room at Harrah's Lake Tahoe - Stateline

The Sun Kings replicated the Beatle's sound almost perfectly. Not only were the instrumental backgrounds identical to the Beatles hits they played, but the voices were very much like the Beatles, and the lead singers, Jim and Drew, were exceptional, both as soloists and as blended voices. The music was spot on and the group gave their all, as evidenced by the sweat dripping from their foreheads. I'd return to a Sun King concert in an instant! Well worth the price of admission!

    The Sun Kings

by GSmith25 on 8/13/13South Shore Room at Harrah's Lake Tahoe - Stateline

The show was good. The Music and the sound was just like the Beatles. But......I kept waiting for the moment when "A Day in the Life" would start and it never did. I left the show very unsatisfied. I could not believe they did not play the Beatles best song. I know I am not the only one who feels this way. One gentleman behind me kept saying 1,2,3,4 for the intro to the short Sargent Pepper refrain that starts A Day in the life. I thought their encore would be this famous song, but NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. However, Drew (John) was exceptional.
