This is the best tribute to the Piano Man!

by Jen S on 10/30/23Gas South Theater - Duluth

The Stranger is an excellent Billy Joel tribute band. All of the band members are talented. As a group they have a tight grasp on the material and play it faithfully. Mike Santoro has a beautiful singing voice. He sounds like a young Billy Joel. The horns, played tonight by Adrian Crutchfield and usually by Steven Daley, make the difference. Billy Joel uses a lot of jazz sax in his music and these guys bring it to life. Excellent band, go see them if you get the chance.

    A Stranger at the Queen

by Ralph G on 1/24/20The Queen - Wilmington

Mike and his band did an incredible job. All the songs were on point and his interaction with the crowd really got everyone involved and singing. His vocals and playing were so good. We decided that we would definitely go again when they return.

    Fantastic

by The Milwaukee Two on 1/1/20

We saw them at The Music Box in Cleveland this past weekend. We traveled from Milwaukee to see them, and it was worth every mile. The play list had a great mix of hits and B sides, and all were delivered exceptionally well. We talked with the band after the show, and would love to see them at Summerfest. We will see them again, maybe in Grand Rapids.

The Stranger (Billy Joel Tribute) Brings Muscle and Magic

by Dmark on 12/30/19Ludlow Garage Cincinnati - Cincinnati

Mike Santoro's The Stranger brings both high energy and grace to Billy Joel's music. What's important is his, and importantly his band mate's, understanding and execution of Joel's compositions and musical intentions. Joel's music is complex, textured and layered and The Stranger can play to Joel's subtleties. The "key three" are also great musicians. Santoro dances across the keyboards and is an awesome band leader and audience communicator. Rodriguez gets Joel's rhythms and occasionally injects his own experimentation a la the great Bonzo as he shifts from pushing the keyboard players left hand and the bass into playing with the lead guitar and keyboard right hand. So cool. (Please do more of this.). And Daley on sax will remind you of a silky low toned jazz crooner one minute or Clarence Clemons another. (I personally am put off by sax players who get stuck on improvising across scales to show of skills and Daley steers clear of this.) And Daley's riff on Jimi Hendrix's National Anthem solo from Woodstock will bring chills; especially to those who hold the memory. Love it or hate it, the musicianship is unmistakable. So, this is a band to savor. The Stranger brings a new energy and thrilling vibe to the great exploratory rock music of Billy Joel. If I had one wish it would be for Daley to loosen up a bit and play more to Bonzo's style. When he does it amplifies the magic and brings a new dimension to Joel's music.
