About

The Shins are one of the most iconic American Indie bands of the 2000's, known for their classic brand of college rock. Their most recent album, Port of Morrow, was released in 2012, and the first single, titled "Simple Song," was featured in the 2013 season finale of the hit TV show How I Met Your Mother. The Shins treat ticket holders to concerts that brim with alternative and folk rock craftsmanship. In classic indie-rock style, The Shins’ stage sets are minimal, and the focus in is on the clever, introverted lyrics and dream-pop arrangements.

Formed in 1996 by singer-songwriter James Mercer, the band's deft lyrics and jangly pop sound are reminiscent of early R.E.M. The Shins' 2001 album Oh, Inverted World became one of the definitive indie albums of the early 2000s, and the single, “New Slang,” which played a prominent role in the film Garden State, helped the band achieve mainstream success. In a list compiled by Pitchfork of the best songs from 2000-2009, “New Slang” came in at No. 62. Their sophomore release, Chutes Too Narrow was named by Rolling Stone as one of the best albums of 2003. Following up was their third album in 2008, Wincing the Night Away, which was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album. Throughout the band's four albums and nonstop tours, The Shins have explored new genres and different song structures. Multi-layered lyrics and high-production levels have been consistent features of the band and its concerts over the years, making The Shins a critically respected indie band throughout the entire music industry.

    Houston Concert ‘22

    by Sophia-Jeanne on 12/6/22

Best experience ever! I ended up having to go alone. I drove all the way to Huston from New Orleans to see them because this band’s music has been with me through it all and there was no way I couldn’t see them live. I wish I would’ve gotten VIP tickets and met the band but I had an amazing time dancing by myself to my favorite songs. I can’t wait to see them live again and hopefully next time they’ll make a stop in the big easy <3

    Once in a Lifetime Experience

by TK on 9/16/22Paramount Theatre - Seattle

I have been a fan of The Shins for over 16 years and finally was able to see them, front row, in a gorgeous venue, surrounded by others who seemed to love them just as much. True performers and that goes for Joseph, as well. I will never forget this experience.

    Grief-stricken

by Ryan on 9/16/22Paramount Theatre - Seattle

My mother died a week before the show and I had to leave town but Ticketmaster wouldn't let me refund the tickets. Im sure it was a nice show but I wouldn't know. I couldn't go, and I couldn't refund the ticket or re-sell it through the app for some reason.

Amazing Band and an Amazing Night!

    by C. K. on 9/13/22Orpheum Theatre - Minneapolis

We waited for this concert for years and finally dropped everything and saw this great band. I flew my daughter in from Colorado for it too! There is NOTHING like listening to "Australia" and having the vocal mike go out while 1000's of people are singing every word and all of the rest of the verses without a lead! It is a sharing experience like I have never seen. I love these people! I love this band!

    PA Problems = Magic

by Music Copius on 9/13/22Orpheum Theatre - Minneapolis

Joseph was just heavenly. They made great back up singers for the Shins as well. The Shins were great. The PA system went out in the middle of the show, but that only highlighted how they are truly playing their own instruments & it still sounded great solely coming out of the amps. Then they jammed, then played some Weezer that the crowd sang along to, which was fun. The Shins were great & so was the Orpheum (& the staff). No complaints

    Love Shins Hate Accoustics

by Me on 9/13/22Orpheum Theatre - Minneapolis

Love the Shins, but the accoustics were suprising bad. Very hard to distiguish the lyrics being sung. Disappointed.

    Excellent of course

by Matt on 9/13/22Orpheum Theatre - Minneapolis

They were great, a lot of energy! I especially enjoyed Joseph opening for them and providing backing vocals on select songs. The bamd handled the temporary mic audio problem well by switching to a sing-along (Undone- the sweater song, Weezer). Pretty unique night.
