Three-time Grammy Award winning hip hop legends The Roots have released ten albums and recorded with some of the biggest names in the music business. Their influence reaches far beyond the hip-hop world, though, as their recent collaborative tour with old-school post-punk rocker, Elvis Costello, proved. While their recordings continue to earn praise and awards, it’s in concert that The Roots really display their chops. Ticket holders to one of their shows are treated to a lesson in hip-hop that shows off the genre’s history and scope, with elements of jazz, rap, funk and even metal. There’s a reason The Roots are often called the best live act in hip-hop, and Rolling Stone magazine goes one better, calling the band one of the 20 greatest live acts in the world.
The Philadelphia-based band formed in 1987 and were mostly an underground act, playing local clubs and small venues. Their first album, "Organix," was recorded to sell at live shows. Though they were not very well-known when they joined the 1994 Lollapalooza tour, the crowd response was huge, and The Roots have been gaining momentum ever since. The group’s third album, "Things Fall Apart," was their breakthrough album, reaching the Billboard Top 10 and ultimately going platinum. The Roots are best known to TV viewers as the house band for Jimmy Fallon’s late-night show, but they still find time for what they do best: live concerts. The Roots continue to stay true to their literal roots.
I don't think these guys are capable of giving a bad show.
I haven’t been to the Wiltern for an event in over a decade+. Location is good because it’s near some other good spots. It’s a smaller venue which I like better too.
This show was incredible. Great energy, great music, all around amazing.
High energy and nonstop dancing. Truly amazing jam!
The Roots were solid and on point as always. Was a great show. Loved every minute of it and how they engaged the audience
I went to Las Vegas with my husband and daughter to relax after Christmas and before the New Year! We passed a billboard that said The Roots were gonna be in town coming from the airport and Immediately I began to search who had the best prices and best seats. Ticketmaster WON hands-down. Attending the concert alone I wanted to feel safe near the stage but off to the side to observe the crowd as well. My seat location was AMAZING!!! The concert was AMAZING. Made friends with the people sitting next to me and we were jammin' out with the Roots for the night! Great Concert and a Great Night Rollin' Solo with The Roots!
The roots played an amazing show for two hours straight. One of the best concerts I’ve ever seen!
Enjoyed the show and the music had me and everyone in the theater bobbing their heads to the beat.Outstsnding!
This concert was my favorite of the year. The Roots produce good vibes, a healthy crowd, and a steady flow of engaging music with great beats. I highly recommend spending an evening with The Roots at the Pearl Amphitheater.
This is a band that I would go and see whenever they’re in town. I had the pleasant experience of seeing them at Russell Street Industrial. The horns were amazing. They danced with their instruments. I’ve never seen a tuba player dance and jammed with his instrument.
