Unexpected Delight
by rfranssen on 11/18/11Fox Theater - OaklandWas fortunate enough to be listening to NPR on the way to Monterey this October and found that Bryan Ferry was playing that evening in Oakland. So I adjusted plans and stopped long enough to drop luggage, shower and change after purchasing tickets on iPhone in car. (Don’t try this kids, it’s illegal.) Bryan Ferry was awesome as expected and the venue was really tops as an art deco theater fully refurbished. But that’s another story again... While hanging out in the lobby waiting for the bands to begin I realized that the opening band had already began. So I approached the stage and was pleased to find an eclectic band on stage that reminded me more of acts I’d seen in SF in the seventies than anything I would be familiar with today. They were fresh and entertaining along with having a great sound. And I was definitely hooked when I heard 15 to 20 served up as a mega mix. I thoroughly enjoyed the remainder of their set and filed this band away as something I need to check out. Now waiting to see if they pop up on the west coast again.
