About
Swedish electronic duo and critical darlings The Knife have a reputation for constantly pushing the envelope, and their ritualistic live show is no exception. Featuring cult-like costumes, extensive choreography, and conceptual audience participation activities like "absurdist aerobics" and "danceoke" (a dance version of karaoke), the band's performances on the European leg of their Shaking the Habitual tour drew rave reviews in 2013. Following a rare appearance at Coachella in 2014, the band will treat North American audiences to their deliciously bizarre live show on a string of highly anticipated tour dates.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
The brainchild of Swedish siblings Karin and Olof Dreijer, The Knife formed in 1999, generating copious amounts of buzz with the stark and beautifully tortured sound of 2003's Deep Cuts. The band's masked appearance and reticence to do interviews added to their mystique, making their decision in 2005 to start performing live for the first time all the more welcome by their legions of fans. Following the 2006 release of Silent Shout, named Album of the Year by Pitchfork, The Knife embarked on their first world tour, flooring audiences with their audiovisual ambition and crypto-symbolism. The release of Shaking the Habitual in 2012 earned the band another round of praise, setting the stage for another critically acclaimed tour in 2013/14.

by NavR on 5/5/14Terminal 5 - New YorkWe bought tickets to hear the duo sing... But what we got is a "cult" like dancing act. Other members lip synched to the songs. It was a waste of time. Sorry.

Rating: 1 out of 5 The Knife was a fraud
by somatik on 5/4/14Terminal 5 - New YorkWhen I go to a concert, the least I expect is to see musicians making music. Voice overs, dubbing, pretending to play instruments while a CD is actually playing are not part of what I consider a concert. This was a lack of respect to the audience. Also, if they actually wanted to create a performance including contemporary dance, at least they should have found good dancers. The show seemed improvised, and the choreographies seemed to be out of a high school performance. I have seen better ones performances by kids. And the poetry in the middle of the show lacked feeling and aesthetics. You you are a teenager, the show is great for you. Alas, this is not a good thing to watch if you have hit your adulthood.

Rating: 4 out of 5 The Knife Mesmerize NYC
by Allenflx on 5/4/14Terminal 5 - New YorkDance interpretations of their songs, pretty sure there were some live vocals as well, but no live instrumentation. Mesmerizing stage performances tho, plus a guest appearance by Shannon Funchess, helping with vocals on Stay Out Here. Too bad the venue is crap.

Rating: 1 out of 5 Horrible experience
by raglanar on 5/4/14Terminal 5 - New YorkThey danced to their cd for most of the show. This is not an exaggeration. There wasn't a single person playing an instrument or singing into a microphone for most songs. Just dancing. Disgusting and hugely disappointing
Rating: 2 out of 5by Anonymous on 5/3/14Terminal 5 - New York I guess I expected them to perform the music, not just do poorly choreographed dancing to a backing tape.
