by robocharlie on 3/18/12Black Ensemble Theater Cultural Center - Chicago

The Black Emsemble Theatre's production of' 'Jackie Wilson' was phenomenal. The storyline was excellent. the actors engaging and engrossing, and the singing was first-rate! the young actor who played Wilson seemed to have channeled his spirit for his performance; I'd never been so happily and thoroughly entertained! A hip hit! It was reet petit!

    Jackie Wilson

by justice51 on 3/18/12Black Ensemble Theater Cultural Center - Chicago

It was one of the best one's I've seen n a long time. The performances by rolston jr I think that's his name amazed me how he had really done his homework on Jackie Wilson and the way he danced and carried himself. Carrie is amazing her energy is so out there. You can tell she loves what she does. I remember seeing her in the Teddy Pendergras play. I can't wait for the Marvin Gaye story. I have already started to get 10 or more people for it.

I was captivated from begining to end. The cast were right on! The actor who played Jackie had me laughing and crying through the entire play, He was Jackie. I learned alot of how Jackie lived and died that I did not know. Thank you Black Ensemble Theater for making me a returning customer. I can't wait to see whats next.

    Mesmerized

by msleelee on 3/13/12Black Ensemble Theater Cultural Center - Chicago

This musical about the story of Jackie Wilson was fabulous! I grew up listening to Jackie Wilson's music. My mom and dad were fans. And after taking my mom on a night out to see this musical, she says it had brought back a whole lot of good memories. Hummmmm :0) Anyway, it was worth it. All the characters were very good. Jackie's momma brought tears to our eyes with her last number - so much heart and soul was felt and shared. And the character who played Jackie - what can I say. He was mesmerizing. He studied his character and portrayed him well.

    Jackie Wilson Show on 3/10.

by Herm31 on 3/12/12Black Ensemble Theater Cultural Center - Chicago

It is one of the best shows I've seen in a long time. The theater is exceptional. Plus the cast and musicians were amazing. Too bad I won't be able to see it again for a while.

    Beautifully done rendition!!!

by WeoftheHills on 3/5/12Black Ensemble Theater Cultural Center - Chicago

Loved the adaptation. Not a lot of stage scenery...but the players were awesome. A couple of things that were quite unappealing was the choice of wine that they were selling for $6 a glass...it was extremely cheap and it is often referred to as "Two-buck Chuck!" which is usually just purchased as a wine cellar filler. Beringer would have sufficed or, at the very least, Sutter Home. Also, you don't have to pay for balcony seating as all the seat rows are elevated. We had balcony seats (I purchase because I'm height-challenged...lol...and can't enjoy events when the main floor is level seating) for this small venue that we paid $65 (which we feel was a tad overpriced) each and most of the ushers sat with us during the play...turn off!!!
