About

The Highwaymen Tribute Show on Tour

Back in 1985, the world witnessed the debut of the greatest country supergroup ever assembled. Four legends of country music — Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, and Kris Kristofferson — began to make music together as The Highwaymen. Each of them had a long history as a pioneer of outlaw country, and each was a musical maverick in his own right, but they were able to come together and unite their distinctive gifts into a single mighty force.

Over the next decade, The Highwaymen released three hit albums, scored as many hit singles, and then kept on playing live through the late 1990s. Sadly, Johnny and Waylon live only in our memories now, so the touring tribute show The Highwaymen Live is the closest country fans can come to having a true Highwaymen experience today.

The show re-creates the sound, look, and persona of three members of the country dream team: Johnny, Willie, and Waylon. With Texan Michael Moore making an awfully convincing Willie, Waylon doppelganger August Manley conjuring the spirit of Jennings, and Philip Bauer handling the imposing presence of The Man in Black, the band puts classic outlaw country music back where it belongs: on a stage in front of a hardy crowd.

When they tackle the hits that made those three country icons famous — like "Ain't Living Long Like This," "Folsom Prison Blues," "Mamas, Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys," "Daddy Sang Bass," "My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys," and "Ring of Fire" — you might have to pinch yourself to make sure you're still grounded in the real world rather than watching the original Highwaymen work their rough-hewn magic right there in front of you. Sure, their names might really be Moore, Manley, and Bauer, but when they step on the stage together, you'd have a tough time convincing anybody that they weren't in fact The Highwaymen.

Highwaymen Live at Wheeling Island on 10/26/19

by Kathy on 10/29/19Wheeling Island Showroom - Wheeling

The show was FABULOUS! These gentlemen are extremely talented and look so much like the original Highwaymen. After the show they were very kind and patient, and stayed quite a while giving autographs and posing for pictures with the guests. This is the second time this year I have been to their concert and I look forward to attending another.

Seats at the venue were great and totslly comfortable since we were in the first row. Only complaint was we couldn’t see the screen with filmstrips. Performers were wonderful and really connected with the audience.

    Good entertainment

by C. T. on 1/1/19The Event Center at Hollywood Casino - Charles Town

Enjoyed it! Was what we expected in a tribute. Would have liked a longer show!! Thought Waylon carried the program, liked Cash’s gestures (he might need a different wig). Voices were good but would have liked Willie preformer to have more verbrato in voice like the real Willie when he sings.

The show was excellent! Each artist did a wonderful job of portraying the originals. We thought it was nice that they met after the show to meet and greet outside the hall.

    GREAT IMPERSONATIONS

by Anonymous on 10/12/17Performing Arts Center at OC Convention Center - Ocean City

When I was watching and listening to these three guys, I thought they were the real highwaymen! They even had their mannerisms! I usually don't like impersonators, but I thoroughly enjoyed this concert!
