About

THE DEAN WEEN GROUP IN CONCERT:

Dean Ween, one half of legendary alternative rock outfit Ween, blends his indie roots with a rekindled love of classic rock traditions in his new outfit The Dean Ween Group. With his trademark fuzz-driven guitars, Dean brings sizzling shred skills and plenty of pummeling riffage to both original and cover material while his revolving cast of backing musicians add driving bass lines, thumping drum beats, and rhythm guitar cranked to the mix. Last but not least, punk vocalist and frequent Dean collaborator Guy Heller belts out hard rock reimaginings of Ween favorites with swaggering gusto. Touring select cities across the country in 2015, The Dean Ween Group offers ticket buyers a unique blend of slacker style and classic rock grandeur live in concert.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born in New Hope, PA in 1970, Dean Ween, aka Mickey Melchiondo, met Aaron Freeman in 1984 during a junior high school typing class. The two soon began swapping records and jamming together, adopting the pseudonyms Dean Ween and Gene Ween. Their early performances as Ween featured the duo playing and singing along with prerecorded sound collages and backing tracks, foreshadowing their experimental cassette releases in the late ‘80s. The band eventually expanded to a full lineup around the time of their 1994 mainstream breakthrough album Chocolate and Cheese. With their experimental, lo-fi, and absurdist tendencies in vogue, Ween released seven more albums and grew their cult following well into the 2000s. Freeman abruptly quit the band In 2012 to deal with personal issues, leaving Melchiondo to form The Dean Ween Group. With an evolving lineup of seasoned musicians backing him in addition to veteran collaborator Guy Heller, he continues to put a lively spin on classic rock while incorporating the best tunes from his various projects.

Went to see Puppets. Dean Ween was fantastic. Man can he pick that guitar. DelmarHall, newest venue in St Lou is very good. Reminds me of the old Pops on a smaller scale.

    Dean Ween brings the HEAT

by remgem on 11/2/14The Stone Pony - Asbury Park

The Dean Ween Group tore the roof off of the stone pony with a classic set of Ween classics and great covers. The band found a solid hard rock groove and stayed with it the whole show. Guy Heller was a great front man with a punk rock attitude. I liked the width of a circle bowie cover as well as transdermal celebration, a ween staple. Dickey Betts, the song, was great and they also played an allman brothers cover. Billy Hector also joined in the madness with some licks of his own.
