A Night Celebrating The Life of Davy Jones!

by nycmusicluver on 4/15/12B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New York

The show had tributes to Davy Jones from, amomg others, his daughters Talia and Anabelle. The master of ceremonies was Cousin Brucie. There was Monkees TV show actress Deana Martin, Tommy James and members of Mr. Jones backing band from throughout the years. There were videos of rare Davy moments, including Your Personal Penguin and Davys' 16 horses. The band performed songs such as The Greatest Story Ever Told and Rainy Jane. They had special lyrics to the song Mary, Mary and sang it as Davy, Davy, Where've You Gone To? At the end of the night Peter Tork and Micky Dolenz came on to sing Hangin Round, You and I, I’m a Believer and ended with Daydream Believer.

    Overwhelming celebration

by Peaches99 on 4/5/12B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New York

I adored this man, as all his fans did. For me this event was so sad. While it was a celebration of his life's accomplishments it was also a cry for help from his family. I hope enough money was generated to really help with his beloved horses. Thank you to everyone who attended, donated and volunteered. I am still heart broken.

    Remembering Davy Jones

by Unitedeh on 4/5/12B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New York

This was an amazing night. Wish Davy was still with us and we did have the reason to be there. The stories were wonderful and the love was there. The food was good but we waited a very long time for the food. all backed up in the kitchen. I would go back to B.B. kings for another event in the furture anyway.

    Davy Jones memorial a disappointment

by halle24 on 4/5/12B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New York

The event was more for a benefit for horses than for honoring Davy.

Way too long; disorganized; still memorable!

by BlanketMan on 4/5/12B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New York

I hate to give a mediocre review to an event that was obviously put together with the best of intentions. But there were some major problems that made it less memorable than it should've been. First, it seemed disorganized - most of the night I was under the impression that they were making it up as they went along. Cousin Brucie, an enthusiastic host, was nonetheless a poor choice to MC. It was obvious he only had a cursory knowledge of Jones' history - just about any fan in the audience probably knew more about Davy than The Cuz does. And I have no idea why, in a show that dragged on for over 4 and a half hours, they waited until after midnight (well into the 4th hour) to introduce Peter Tork and Micky Dolenz to the stage. Let's be honest: Davy's main legacy will always be as a Monkee - why devote such a small portion of an incredibly padded show to his old bandmates??? And lastly, I don't understand why, even if Mike Nesmith couldn't appear, that he didn't even send a note or a video message to play? Very disappointing, Nez. On the positive side, Davy's band sounded great (when they actually played!) and Micky and Peter did perform like the pros they are. The three songs they did together made the night worthwhile, but the disjointed mess before their appearance could've been cut by 2/3 and only improved the tribute. It was sad seeing fans leaving around midnight, tired of waiting for a Monkee appearance. Even Cousin Brucie fled before Micky took the stage! Why have an all-ages show, on a weeknight, drag on til 1 AM, with the highlight not taking place til well after midnight???
