Pioneering indie folk musicians David Wax & Suz Slezak are the plucky husband-wife duo behind the eclectic, exuberant "Mexo-Americana" band David Wax Museum. Their newest album Remember My Future, produced by Alec Spiegelman (Okkervil River, Kevin Morby), is a collection of 11 homespun postmodern gems. The band's genre-defying, shapeshifting personality is on full display from the more downtempo, nuanced songs to the boisterous and bombastic, making it obvious how a band with this kind of breadth has comfortably shared the stage with acts as diverse as The Avett Brothers, Latin legends Los Lobos & Buena Vista Social Club, and indie darlings Gregory Alan Isakov and Watchhouse.
Pre-pandemic, the ascendant band was enjoying newfound success with their 2019 first label release Line of Light (on Austin's award-winning Nine Mile Records), a national TV debut on CBS This Morning: Saturday, and 3 distinct features on NPR's World Cafe. They built bridges performing at the wedding of Democratic presidential hopeful (now Transportation Secretary) Pete Buttigieg and his husband Chasten--and then in 2021 their plaintive ballad "Big Sur" debuted during the marriage scene on Netflix #1 show, Firefly Lane. First reaching national acclaim with a show-stopping debut at the Newport Folk Festival, the band has built a reputation around energetic, heartfelt live shows and sonically adventurous albums that fly the worldly flag for a brand of Americana that reaches far beyond our borders.

by Stef1040 on 4/21/14Port City Music Hall - PortlandMy wife and I (age 65/64) first heard DWM on the Dartmouth Green prob 4 yrs ago and this was #4 for us in Portland. We invited our 33 y/o daughter and her long time male s/o and they are now true fans too- CD buyers. DWM's A-MEX style (American-Mexican- ah, my guess is AMEX will be all over them for usage) combined by Suz's now famous jawbone/Appalachian addition, and their obvious joy of vocalizing- are a worth-to-behold event. That means, a must-experience for first or multiple times. DWM-Let us know when you're back, we WILL be there.

by Duparker on 4/21/14Port City Music Hall - PortlandDWM has great energy and fills up a room with their infectuous drive and their suburb musicianship. They really have a show for all in attendance, whether you are a wallflower or in the middle of a dancing crowd.

Mix was terrible, all bass and it was far too loud for the venue. The management of La Santa Cecelia blamed the venue acoustics, but I have attended many concerts at this venue and despite the issues with the sound caused by the hardwood floors a quality sound can be achieved.
