About

THE CONTORTIONIST IN CONCERT:

Progressive metal sextet The Contortionist plays headbanging music with mind-blowing musicianship and soul-searching sophistication. In concert dueling guitarists Cameron Maynard and Robby Baca fluidly alternate between fierce power chords and intricate melodic licks, as keyboardist Eric Guenther brings a truly cerebral edge to their metal mayhem. Drummer Joey Baca teams up with bassist Jordan Eberhardt to add jazzy flourishes to their pummeling beats and intricate breakdowns. Lead singer Mike Lessard uses this explosive musical backdrop to propel his dynamic and captivating performances, alternating between primal screams and masterful melodies as he reaches out to fans at the edge of the stage to help sing along with him. On their 2015 tour with like-minded bands Revocation and Fellujah, The Contortionist will bring their incredible showmanship, impeccable skill, and savage sound to cities across North America.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

The Contortionist was formed in Indianapolis in 2007 by founding members Joey Baca (drums), Robby Baca (guitar), Cameron Maynard (guitar), and Christopher Tilley (bass). While cycling through several singers in their early years, the band earned spots touring in support of groups like Hatebreed and Between the Buried and Me. The band released their debut album Exoplanet in 2010, attracting a devoted following among fans of progressive metal. They returned in 2012 with Intrinsic, but announced the departure of long-time vocalist Jon Carpenter the following year. Fortunately former Last Chance to Reason vocalist Mike Lessard stepped up to the plate in 2014 to help write their third album Language, an addition that has drawn even more fans to the group’s sound as their popularity continues to grow.

Throughout their career, The Contortionist have brought numerous venues to capacity, like Saint Andrews Hall and Plaza Live.

    Mind-blowing

by A-Train on 10/18/22Old National Centre - Indianapolis

First of all, the check-in experience was easy and quick. Buying merch and drinks was painless. Loved how easy it was to get VIP seating. Audio was awesome, lights were top-notch. Could not have wished for anything better.

    Best night ever!

by Taylor on 10/18/22Old National Centre - Indianapolis

My husband and I had such an amazing time! The venue was absolutely gorgeous and the sound in their was great! We were kind of disappointed that our show wasn’t in the main section of the theater (just because when you look up this venue online the main theater is what you see) but it wasn’t the end of the world! We drove all the way from Iowa to come see The Contortionist at this venue! We couldn’t pass up the last night on tour! My husband and I absolutely love The Contortionist and actually walked out to ‘The Source’ on our wedding day! To be able to hear it in person even if it’s a 2 minute song, warmed our hearts more than anyone could ever imagine! 10/10 would come back for them!

The only band you’ll ever need

I love these boys more than life itself and I don’t care who knows it 😅

    Amazing!

by barkums on 10/12/22Paradise Rock Club presented by Citizens - Boston

Not much more to say other than both Rivers of Nihil and The Contortionist are even more amazing live. It was a packed house at the Paradise and I am pretty sure the building moved a little further down Comm Ave from the energy brought by both bands.

    Overall experience was nice!

by Ian on 10/12/22Paradise Rock Club presented by Citizens - Boston

The sound system could be more uniform. Expect to hear all the instruments + vocals equally from all directions.

    Raw, powerful, and sophisticated!

by TK on 10/11/22Gramercy Theatre - New York

After listening to these guys for years, seeing The Contortionist live for the first time was jaw dropping! The sound was impeccable and well mixed, the band was tight and flawless, and the energy was brutal to hypnotic. They are true artists at their craft and offering the Kesamkunstwerk of an entire album (Language, Exoplanet) from start to finish rather than the "greatest hits" format so many bands follow. Go buy all the albums and check them out live! I'm hoping they stick to the album theme and I can catch 'Intrinsic' live on another tour

Cool band, not best venue for handicapped

by Metal babe on 9/28/22Summit - Denver

Love this band. There was a sound issue though. Distorted vocals? The sound wasn't too loud at least so that was good. The handicapped accessible area couldn't see band very well which sucks when this could be changed. Since I paid money it would be nice to actually see the band. Idea: instead of people standing in front of the ADA section, how about blocking it off a bit. People at a metal show aren't able to tell where it is especially with an ever moving moshpit going. Or put the wheelchair section at a higher level so we can actually see the band. No point in rolling us to the front if we still can't see. Also the merch was up stairs. Please put it ground level so the crippleds can actually buy it too. The light show was cool, not overdone. Bathrooms always great as a female at metal show never a line. And theres no door, so that's ideal to roll my wheelchair. Thanks for taking my ideas into consideration on behalf of all the other disabled people too!! 🤘

    Stellar Show

by Jessifunasaurus on 9/27/22Summit - Denver

I had been waiting to see The Contortionist since the wake of the pandemic. Both The Contortionist and Rivers of Nihil had killer sets and sounded out of this world. I had a great time, and Summit is an awesome venue for metal music.

    The Contortionist: Language and Exoplanet

by MetalMatt on 9/27/22Summit - Denver

I loved this experience. It was great to see my two favorite Contortionist albums performed live in their entirety. I had heard that at other dates on the tour frontman Michael Lessard wasn't able to complete both full sets, so I was very happy that he made it through the entire show in Denver. Was a bit bummed Cam couldn't be there to fill out all the guitar parts, but things happen. Other than that, this show was PACKED! This was the most people I've seen at a show at Summit. Pretty nuts.

    Show featuring some excellent bands

by Buffungu on 4/2/18Brighton Music Hall - Boston

Brighton Music Hall is a great Classic rock venue that is full of character. The band line up was decent. The only band that I personally did not thoroughly enjoy was Silent Planet. Sky Harbor and the Contortionist did not disappoint
