It is The Connells - What more is there to say? We were in the front right where Mike Connell was playing. The band is solid and always fun to see. Their new album is great and it is so good to see them live. They really looked like they were enjoying the night and connecting w/ the crowd.. Doug's vocals aren't as strong as they used to be but as his chords loosened up his voice got better as the show progressed. They played for about 1:41 with many old hits coming out and 4 songs from the new album. I do wish they had played "Universal Glue" but I was ecstatic to hear them play "Hats Off" as I hadn't heard that song live by them in at least 25 years. The venue was plenty big and parking was a breeze. They kept the air on (thank god) and the only thing negative about it was that they were out of a ton of drinks. It didn't matter to me as I was the DD but I heard that from a number of people. If you have a chance to see them live, do so. You will not be disappointed.
This was a great show! The band has maintained their sound and we're Uber-engaged with the audience. The event also became a bit of a reunion with friends I hadn't seen in 30+ years.
Great show great venue (The Senate) Good mix of old and new songs.
First, entry to the venue was like Fort Knox. We were denied taking our "SMALL" purses in so had to leave with a bartender at the neighboring bar (uber'd down so no car to take them back to) then we were frisked, wanded, and basically treated as though we were getting through security at the airport. It was very over the top and the people were rude (also demanded they put the wristband on right arm - what does that matter??). Then the concert - the lead singer seemed drunk and we could not understand him. They sang multiple "new" songs that were not familiar at all so people were just kind of standing around. At the very end, they sang a couple of "oldies" which everyone was very excited about. Not impressed.
Great atmosphere. Great crowd but the setlist was not good. needed more Boylan Heights and Fun n Games. Glad I went but came away disappointed.
The band was in fine form musically and played pretty much all the songs you would hope to hear. They were clearly having a good time, and it showed in their music.
I have seen the Connells so many times, I have lost count - BUT this was by far one of their best performances!!
Great show it was great to have the guys back in Norfolk, it has been way too long.
