This was a superb show, opening with the Chiffons, still sounding great with hits like "He's So Fine" and "Sweet Talking Guy". "Little" Peggy March was next and was the big surprise of the evening...she has a tremendous voice and knocked out killer versions of a number of Sixties hits, including her singles "I Will Follow Him" and "Hello Heartache, Goodbye Love."
The Shirelles had way too many hits to perform all of them, but it was great hearing the ones they managed to squeeze in. The lead vocalist sounds just the same as she did back in the day, and still looks fabulous.
Lesley Gore received a rapturous response from the crowd, and deservedly so. She shared some fascinating stories about her work with Quincy Jones and a 17-year-old Marvin Hamlisch. Her voice still sounds great and still soars on "You Don't Own Me". She closed the show with "It's My Party", a magnificent end to a memorable evening.
