About

THE BRIAN JONESTOWN MASSACRE:

With a moniker that namechecks both The Rolling Stonesí multi-instrumentalist Brian Jones and one of the largest cult tragedies of all time, The Brian Jonestown Massacre are always ready to bring a freaky experience to the stage. They start with a psychedelic ë60s sound and inject a healthy dose of riff-based rock to get fans shaking their money makers. On favorites like ìAnemoneî, ìPishî, and ìStraight Up and Downî, the group lets it all hang out with their trippy revelry of jangly guitars, insistent beats, and reedy organs. Frontman Anton Newcombe leads audiences through this mind-blowing journey, providing both the hypnotic melodies and spacey guitar solos that have become the bandís hallmarks. In concert The Brian Jonestown Massacre manage to outshine their adventurous records by delving even deeper into their far-out vibes, and ticket buyers shouldnít miss the chance to get swept up in the bandís heady grooves any time they perform.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Leader Anton Newcombe founded The Brian Jonestown Massacre in 1990, banding together a revolving lineup of San Francisco musicians for the groupís shoegaze-inspired 1993 debut Spacegirl & Other Favorites. After some sonic retooling and a lineup turnover, the group won over fans and critics with an impressive trio of albums all released in 1996 that focused on psychedelia and R&B-driven sounds. In 2004 the band was featured in Ondi Timonerís documentary Dig!, which focused on the love-hate relationship between Newcombe and The Dandy Warholsí frontman Courtney Taylor-Taylor. The remainder of the ë00s saw the group earn praise for their daring explorations of everything from electronica to avant-garde music. Since then The Brian Jonestown Massacre has revealed even more facets to their sound with albums like 2015ís orchestral Musique de Film ImaginÈ, and they continue to offer crowds a rocking, mind-expanding experience everywhere they play.

    Anton's behavior is unacceptable

by Disappointed on 11/16/23recordBar - Kansas City

Anton spends 4 to 5 minutes between each song messing with his gear and arguing with the crowd or band. They sounded good when they played, but the long breaks between songs killed the momentum of the show. I like their music, but I won't be seeing them again. The things Anton said to the crowd went way over the line.

    Gorgeous Sonic Rain

by dolores quintana on 11/7/23The Bellwether - Los Angeles

Another incredible show from The Brian Jonestown Massacre. Their shows are always mesmerizing and beautiful soundscapes—amazing songs, great musicianship, and musically complex songs that take you on an inner journey. Frontman Anton Newcombe and the band are always tight. Well rehearsed and just playing the songs. It's a mystical and soul-healing experience.

    Bummer

by Disappointed on 10/20/23The Van Buren - Phoenix

Wish they would’ve just played a damn set, 3 minutes in between each song, singer yelling at the drummer. Lame

Failure of a performance by The Brian Jonestown Massacre!

by Terrible performance on 10/19/23The Van Buren - Phoenix

Monday night was a failure of a performance by The Brian Jonestown Massacre band! Not only did the band yell, curse, and intimidate the audience, but amongst themselves they spewed hate and altogether stopped performing! This was the worst show I've ever seen and it's ridiculous that I paid money for a pitiful performance put on by Live Nation. I'm extremely disappointed in the money wasted and shocked at Live Nation passing this show off as "entertainment". What a failure of a company with no outreach to correct this.

I waited so long to see the Brian Jonestown massacre. I was even considering going to Germany to see them when I saved enough $… I was so thankful beyond words to see they were coming to Phoenix and bought a ticket right away. This was the best show I have ever seen and it was an honor to be in the presence of The Brian Jonestown massacre. Thank you .. I hope to see them again. I wish I could be at every show. ❤️
