About

THE BOTH IN CONCERT:

The supergroup is already an entrenched rock and roll tradition, but with arrival of The Both, Ted Leo and Aimee Mann's new project, the superduo is making gains. Combining Leo's distorted yet tuneful guitar work and Mann's easy, silvery vocals, The Both is power-pop at its best, as heard on their debut single "Milwaukee," all brisk drums and bright harmonies. In advance of their 2014 debut full-length, The Both are treating fans to select US tour dates, and if Leo's punk rock background has anything to say about it, the duo will pull out all the stops at their live shows.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

While on tour together as solo acts in 2013, Ted Leo and Aimee Mann decided to team up after sharing an aha moment in front of a statue of Arthur Fonzarelli, a.k.a. The Fonz, in downtown Milwaukee. Both were already respected musicians — Leo made a name for himself in the '00s with Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, while Mann is known for her time fronting '80s new wave band 'Til Tuesday and an illustrious solo career. Although the two have shared many bills over the years, The Both marks their first collaboration, but you'd never know it — the ease and confidence the duo exude on debut single "Milwaukee" implies a much more veteran project. As far as new music goes, it doesn't get much newer than The Both — with their first full-length and tour scheduled for spring 2014, fans at their first live shows wills share the privilege of getting in early on a very promising project.

The Both gave us a great performance!

by Melsthoughts on 1/23/15Ponte Vedra Concert Hall - Ponte Vedra Beach

Aimee Mann and Ted Leo are each incredible performers. Seeing this concert makes me hope they stay together as The Both for a long time to come. Each is an incredible musician and each has a beautiful voice. Loved the singing! Great songwriting, too. Absolutely loved this concert!

by battmann69 on 1/20/15Ponte Vedra Concert Hall - Ponte Vedra Beach

If you're a fan of pop music and specifically Aimee Man, you'll dig The Both. I didn't know all the songs, but they are immediately accessible and enjoyable. I'd go see them again in a minute!

    Opening act was disgusting!

by Hilts on 1/19/15Ponte Vedra Concert Hall - Ponte Vedra Beach

Opening act, Laura Jane Grace, was a horrible display of anger and potty mouth that we were not expecting. We almost walked out. As for Aimee Mann and Ted Leo, they were fantastic! Note to self, do a little background on opening act artists I know nothing about. I do not like those kind of surprises!

    More than I could've imagined!

by CedricCSCFL on 1/19/15Ponte Vedra Concert Hall - Ponte Vedra Beach

The experience was more than I could've imagined. Instead of standing room, there were seats arranged, leftover from a concert the night before, and I was there early enough to secure a seat front and center. Aimee and Ted played nearly all of their album (all but "Honesty"), and they played a few songs from each of their canons (Save Me, Goodbye Caroline, and Voices Carry from AM's). They had fun banter between the songs, and it was a great time. I would definitely travel again (2.5 hrs this time) to see The Both, or either artist individually -- Ted Leo was Incredible on the guitar! -- and though I couldn't imagine a better time.

    One of the worst...

Too much talking and bass...not enough Aimee Mann.

    Aimee Mann HUGE disappointment

by Billhockey on 1/19/15Ponte Vedra Concert Hall - Ponte Vedra Beach

Opening act was without a doubt HORRIBLE!!! Voice (Screaming) lyrics (f bombs) was so bad I thought it was a joke. Aimee Mann was a bucket list trip. Drive to Ponte Vedra, stay at hotel for special nite with wife and no Aimee Mann. Her co-singer was slightly better than clown in opening act. So disappointed in whole nite. Walked out after 5 songs. Needed a beer to forget whole nite. Again opening act by trans gender guy/lady was a joke. He had to ask 3 fans for lyrics. J

    Huge Aimee Mann fan!

by yofee on 1/19/15Ponte Vedra Concert Hall - Ponte Vedra Beach

Everything about this concert was great! The price, the venue, the parking, the staff, and of course the show. I thought I'd be standing the entire time, but was pleasantly surprised to get seats right after opening act, 4th row, dead center. The Both was great. Aimee and Ted had an awesome rapport, very funny. I am a hard core Aimee Mann fan so was hoping for a few more of her solo songs. Will be back to Ponte Vedra for more concerts.

    The Both is great

by notintonicknames on 5/7/14Bowery Ballroom - New York

I am a huge fan of Aimee Mann so came for her and was not familiar with Ted Leo prior to the show. The show blew me away, Ted Leo is an outstanding musician (boy can he play guitar!). Musically, the Both complement each other well. The chemistry on stage was entertaining. Aimee Mann also played a few of her own songs as did Mr. Leo. The venue was really a great size and the crowd (a nice mix of ages) was great as well. One fan started to get out of hand and Ted Leo was able to talk them down and de-escalate the situation like the pro that he is.

    Quirky

by twoandahalfcents on 5/4/14Music Hall of Williamsburg - Brooklyn

I really like Aimee Mann so i have a lot to say about this performance. I think there was way too much banter between her and Ted. It was really difficult to hear the words at the back of the theatre so it was kinda boring. I love the way their music compliments each other but Ted should NOT sing back up on her songs..especially SAVE ME. He adds a lot with his guitar but that should be his only contribution to her songs. Just because I wanted to hear more of HER voice. I feel like they need a really good producer to bring out the best of their unique talents. There were some moments I thought were great and was hoping it to develop but it seemed stuck in an early 90's rock sound.

    #THEBOTH ROCK!

by VSBAUER on 5/4/14Bowery Ballroom - New York

Aimee Mann and Ted Leo balance/compliment one another so well, I'm glad they've joined forces and hope that there's much more to come in the future. Bought the album the next day and have been listening to it ever since! Acoustically, the drums often overpowered the vocals during the show, but that would be my only complaint (more the sound operator's fault than the musicians... hence, getting the album so I could actually hear all the lyrics).
