Truly talented musicians. I would love to see them again live. They were incredible.
Played mostly from the new album, which I had been listening to a lot. Everything sounded right on point. The intensity of the instrumental sections of their songs is so much better live. Pete's voice is amazing.
They put on such an amazing show, the songs have a little more of a post-rock feel than they do on the recorded versions, and it just gives them that bit more of an emotional punch. Which, emotion? The Antlers have an abundance of it to begin with, but their shows are like a religious experience.
I really like the new album "Familiars." I "familiarize" myself with the artists latest material before attending any concert. They only list 3 official band members so I was curious how they would pull the new LP off live with the horns and various keyboards. They certainly pulled it off with some major mutlitasking. Playing a trumpet with one hand and a keyboard with the other. The other keyboard player held down the bass lines as well as occasional trumpet. They sounded perfect as did the venue. They also played a good mix of songs from the older albums although I suspect many came just to hear "I Don't Need Love" and were dissappointed. I am glad they played "Putting the Dog to Sleep" last so that I did not have to deal with the distraction of people leaving early. Mr. Twin Sister was great! I was listening to all thier music leading up to the concert as well but they sounded nothing like what I had been listening to and I was pleasantly suprised. I don't know if they played all new material or if they just played the old songs differently. Just a great soul/R&B vibe. Once again some major mutlitasking on keys, horn, guitar.
I'm going to be completely honest, I have no idea who The Antlers are, I went solely on the fact that Yellow Ostrich was opening for them. It was really amazing to see one of my favorite bands in such a close and intimate setting. The cherry on top of the evening was buying my merchandise from Alex Schaaf himself and having the opportunity to ask him a question about his music. It was so awesome that I hugged my new t-shirt the entire car ride home. I'm sure The Antlers were great, but Yellow Ostrich was phenomenal.
I initially purchased tickets for Chairlift opening for Sufjan Stevens. As the date approached the bill was changed to the Antlers as the headliner. Being that I purchased the tickets with the priority on seeing Chairlift and already familiar with Sufjan, it was a welcomed surprise. I had never heard of the Antlers prior, but needless to say they are now on my short list of favorite bands, and I immediately downloaded their album Burst Apart the next day. Great Show!
This show was absolutely amazing. The sound acoustics in the Walt Disney Concert Hall just took this show to a whole other level. The Antlers were absolutely flawless. Exquisite!
The Chairlift set was terrific. LAPhil & Disney Hall really put together a great show. Atmosphere was cozy, the hall didn't feel too big for the show. I'd see another pop-rock show there in the future.
They just weren't good and they didn't play my favorite song, Two. Ruined my night. I wish it had been Coldplay.
