    A Pleasant Evening

by zkghqrs on 11/29/11Rochester Auditorium Theatre - Rochester

I thought that overall the performance fell just slightly short. I'm glad I went, but I think I expected a little more historical perspective - more than just announcing "this song is from 1943". The actors themselves did a pretty good job. I'm not so much of a Bing Crosby fan, but I went mainly to see the Bob Hope part. I was really impressed with the Red Skelton, Jack Benny, and Jimmy Durante characters. The jokes were very good. The piano player was an incredible added treat. It was a very enjoyable evening.

I guess I didn't know what to expect, and maybe that was why I was disappointed. I tried to close my eyes and think that it was Bing singing. Not really even close. He had a deep voice, but didn't croon like Bing. We were taking my 78 year old mom and she said she enjoyed it, so I guess that is all that matters.

This show was a waste of time & money.

by Chrystne on 11/24/11Auditorium Theatre - Rochester

We were so disappointed in this show. We had front row seats so we could hear & see all. However the talent was lame. There were only two men, one did Bing, another did everyone else--Skelton, Hope, Durante and Benny. He was better than Bing. Bing could barely sing and was frequently off key. The "band" consisted of a piano, drums and guitar. Big deal. No wonder they cancelled the night show. I would not recommend this and wish we could get our money back. It was terrible.

    Very enjoyable

by NowThatWasMusic on 11/23/11Rochester Auditorium Theatre - Rochester

Not a blow-me-away but a very pleasant way to spend a couple of hours on a Sunday afternoon. The Benny and Durante characters were quite good, while the Skelton character had too much trouble with his lines. Crosby did a nice mix of songs and had the style down but sounded most authentic on "When the Blue of the Night..." The pianist was excellent and we really enjoyed her little "bits", but did wish there had been more of a nod to some of the female performers of the era who performed with Bing --Frances Langford, the Andrews Sisters, Rosie Clooney... This was definitely an event for the senior crowd. Most were very attuned to the humor and many hummed along with the songs, but a younger couple seated near us seemed somewhat lost and didn't return after intermission.

    This was AWESOME

by scrapbookqueen on 11/22/11Rochester Auditorium Theatre - Rochester

I took my 94 year old Grandma to see this & we were both so impressed by the talent. I was able to get 2nd row so we had a great view & could hear the music great. I would go again in a heartbeat!

    Thanks For the Memories...NOT Really

Low budget performance/staging. Should have had a larger back-up band. "Bing" was a pretty good imitation.
