About

TELEKINESIS IN CONCERT:

Seattle-based indie outfit Telekinesis makes compact power-pop full of fuzzy guitars, shimmering synths, and emotional vocals. Project mastermind Michael Benjamin Lerner’s charming voice manages to make even the most melancholy lyrics sound sunny and fun, and in concert his infectious energy always gets ticket buyers bouncing around to his buoyant songs. Lerner tends to perform solo, rocking a vintage guitar and sunglasses as he plays along to his crisp backing tracks, but despite the minimal setup his live shows pack quite a punch. Whether he’s crooning to the gentle groove of “Ghosts and Creatures” or picking up the pace with “Tokyo”, Telekinesis always brings the catchy indie pop goodness at his upbeat live shows.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Michael Benjamin Lerner released several EPs as Telekinesis before releasing his self-titled 2009 debut LP, an auspicious record that was produced by Death Cab for Cutie guitarist Chris Walla. The album garnered the attention of indie imprint Merge Records, and Lerner signed with the label soon after. He followed up in 2011 with 12 Desperate Straight Lines, an album full of honest power-pop nuggets that led to extensive touring with a backing band. His third album, 2013’s Dormarion, was a hit with critics that led to more touring. At his recent shows Lerner has eschewed performing with a band in favor of a solo approach, taking the stage with a guitar and backing tracks to deliver his heart-on-sleeve songs. In early 2015 he announced his fourth album Ad Infinitum, welcome news for fans eager to catch his new Telekinesis material on tour.

    Telekinesis = High Energy!

    by spedgrl on 5/15/13Bowery Ballroom - New York

    I discovered Telekinesis via a free download and was hooked on the catchy lrics and high energy sound. I was so glad to get the opportunity to see them live. The band didn't disappoint! The music was high energy from the start, and the band seemed thrilled to be playing at the Bowery Ballroom. I will definitely catch Telekinesis the next time they are in the New York area! Unfortunately, I missed most of Deep Sea Diver's set, but I really enjoyed what I heard!

    Telekinesis was awesome! Really enjoyed the show! The warm up band, Deep Sea Diver, was really good as well - I had never heard them before and really liked them. I would definitely go see them again if they come back to Boston!

    They were really good though. The production of the albums transferred very nicely That sometimes isn't the case with bands. No encore though was pretty weak.

    Great show in great venue

    by johnwatersfan on 5/11/13Bowery Ballroom - New York

    Telekinesis always puts on a good show. This is the third time I've seen him and he and whatever band he has around him always put out great energy. Not just great songs, but fun to watch and dance to. Telekinesis really engages the audience. It was a huge treat to see Fred Armisen join the band and play drums for Tokyo. Opening band, Deep Sea Diver, was fantastic as well. Went out and bought their album after as a result.

    Telekinesis!!

    by DavidLewCooper on 3/7/11Magic Stick - Detroit

    Opening was the band Hounds Below featuring a lead singer with a great voice, not unlike George Jones. Next was the dance inducing Love Language who really warmed the crowd up with their stunning melodies, eccentric energy, and let's not forget catchy tunes. Finally Telekinesis hit the stage like a hurricane! Telekinesis is a band you have to see to believe. The jokes and conversations between tunes new and old, inviting fans up onto the stage to sing their most popular song, and the energy was monumental. Fantastic show.
