I expected to be transported musically and was--beyond my expectations. I've been a "fan" for years, and her recordings inspired many of my voice students. I was so grateful to attend her recital here in Tucson
This show was incredible. Buy the best seats you can afford, go and enjoy!
The chace to see and hear Susan Graham was a dream come true and more. Her concert confirmed for me what I already knew- that she is one of the great mezzos of our time. Not only does she have pipes, she has incredible finesse and expressiveness, a terrific stage presence, and a charming sense of humor. It was an unforgettable evening.
This was an absolutely fabulous concert. We are "seasoned" vocal recital attendees and this concert did not disappoint. She has an engaging prescence on stage and of course, vocally, she is stupendous. Beyond that - her programming was a stroke of genius! Good sound, good sight-lines, good view. This is a small hall (somewhat of a disgrace in its "plainness" for a university of this caliber). No problem. The seats are rather close together---reminds me of an airline. Its very neccessary to stand up if somewhat is trying to reach a seat in the middle. The sittability of the seats was ok - nothing outstanding
If you are able to attend Susan Graham's performance, you MUST go.
It was a night to remember. Susan shows such commitment to her craft and such a range of emotion. It was a very enjoyable evening.
Unbelievably beautiful sound comes out of this woman's body. She has mastered the word "artistry" with her vocal control, deep musical understanding, years of experience and a heaping dose of raw talent. She may well be America's finest mezzo of the last fifty years. CSUN's new performing arts center provided a lovely showcase for her voice. Ms. Graham's Scottish accompanist Malcolm Martineau demonstrated amazing musicality in this recital, which complemented her voice very well. The program was also impeccably chosen, a treat for even the snobbiest of the musical elite. Just reading the meaty program notes was an education! However, Ms. Graham is not a snob: she took great care to bring every member of the audience under her delightful spell with her dramatic acting and gorgeous singing. She is the perfect combination of singer and communicator, which just makes for excellent entertainment. It's worth the trip to Carnegie or Kennedy to catch this recital before her American tour ends.
It was so wonderful to hear and see a true diva... Such a memorable experience... I would go again tonight if she was performing.
