    The Crowd Had Fun!

by BeeeAnthony on 11/27/15Star Plaza Theatre - Merrillville

Let's start with the problems first...the earlier weather caused perilous travel, Doug E. Fresh, Kwame and EPMD could not make it and the show started at least 80-90 minutes late! Now the good thing was that the crowd was hyped up and patient at the same time. I didn't hear anyone around me complaining about the delay of the show and that was partially because DJ Chill Will had everyone entertained with his mixes. Finally, the artists starting popping out on the stage, one at a time...Chubb Rock, Dana Dane, Special Ed and finally Monie Love and they all shared the stage, while taking turns spitting out rhymes. People were on their seat and if the weather had not been snowing, the roof would have been on fire! Kool Moe Dee and his crew followed and it seemed as though the flame had died a bit and much of the audience were seated and I guess, catching their breathes, but who were they catching their breathes for? The notorious, OG, prince of making money and disrespecting women, Too Short! I was a little bit out of my element as a 50's baby, which weren't called out, but by the look of the many people (women) who were standing and bouncing and speaking back to Too Short when he'd say his "favorite word", he was a favorite for these insane hip hop lovers. I needed a barf bag... Last, but not least, we were entertained by one of the first, all female hip hop groups from Queens, NY... Salt N Pepa with their DJ Spindarella back on the turntables! Although I believe it was past midnight, Salt N Pepa brought the needed energy...the crowd was still charged up and showing a lot of love for these sexy ladies. I was glad to have been in the building, although I originally was interested in seeing the legend, KRS-1, who'd bowed out after a postponed show.

    Had a great time

by Anonymous on 11/25/15Star Plaza Theatre - Merrillville

This was a great concert, and we had a great time. Nothing like REAL Hip Hop music. Unfortunately a couple of the artist was not in attendance due to the snow storm. Would have been even better if they would have performed.

Super Fresh Hip Hop Fest was just ok

by Nevabetta on 11/24/15Star Plaza Theatre - Merrillville

I don't like the fact that they were promoting one of my favorite groups (EPMD), but they didn't perform. We were told about some of the performers not being there due to the weather. However, EPMD was not one of them that they mentioned. The reason I purchased the tickets was to see EPMD, Salt N Pepa, and Too Short. I don't feel I got my money worth; especially without an explanation.

    What a fun night

by Hatman24 on 11/24/15Star Plaza Theatre - Merrillville

Even though a few of the artist did not show up due to the snow storm that dropped it was a great night. I would have love to see Dougie Fresh and EPMD, but Kool Moe Dee and Too Short put on a great show. Salt and Peppa was decent, looked like they were gonna get assaulted by some of the men that came on stage

    Super Fresh Hip Hop Fest

by AntB63 on 11/24/15Star Plaza Theatre - Merrillville

This was a very good concert. The acts were great!!! Chubb Rock, Monie Love, Dana Dane, Special Ed got the party started and they did not disappoint. Each one performed their hit(s) and added some special flavor paying tribute to other artists. Kool Moe Dee still has that moxie which made him at one time the #1 male rapper/mc. Whats Too Shorts' favorite word?! He was straight outta Oak-Town and gave the show that rough edge and he finished his set with my favorite T-S track/saying, "Blow Da Whistle." Salt n Peppa with Spinderella closed the show in fashion and style and kept the party started by Chubb Rock and crew going. The music and lyrics were crystal and the seating was great in this venue. It was the first visit my wife and I payed to the Starr Plaza Theater and it wont be the last. We took advantage of the concert and stayed the night at the Radisson which is connected to the Theater and again were not disappointed.

    Hip Hop Flop

by Aemt221 on 11/24/15Star Plaza Theatre - Merrillville

Several of the groups were no shows. The ones that did show up were really bad. I don't pay this kind on money for tickets to see performers on stage in jeans and hoodies looking like they just got out of bed. The performers did shortened versions of all their songs. The concert started very late and you could tell they were trying to stretch out stage time. Very unorganized and very unprofessional!! I will never go to another concert in a small venue like this. What a waste!!!!

    disappointed

by toomaro on 11/24/15Star Plaza Theatre - Merrillville

drove 3hrs to see some of my favorite childhood emcee's, and half was a no show No Douge Fresh, No Epmd, No Dj Clue, No Kwaume! that's the first thing, the second was Special Ed Monie love and Chubb Rock was on the stage at once instead of spreading the artist out to make up for the missing performers. The music played in between sets was new school even though there's a ton of old school music that could have been played. They also could have done scratching with a dj to fill in time..we were 45 minutes late and the show hadn't started! The other performers were good Too Short, Kool moe D and Salt and Pepa but Salt and Pepa only did a few songs...i paid $86 including fees and I was very disappointed

    Disappointment didn't last long!

by Nicole817 on 11/24/15Star Plaza Theatre - Merrillville

So, I was kind of bummed out that Doug E. Fresh didn't make it because of the weather. But, Too Short and Salt 'n Peppa with Spindarella made up for it. I just wish the time between acts was shorter. With so many artist, it was a long concert.
