The Crowd Had Fun!
by BeeeAnthony on 11/27/15Star Plaza Theatre - MerrillvilleLet's start with the problems first...the earlier weather caused perilous travel, Doug E. Fresh, Kwame and EPMD could not make it and the show started at least 80-90 minutes late! Now the good thing was that the crowd was hyped up and patient at the same time. I didn't hear anyone around me complaining about the delay of the show and that was partially because DJ Chill Will had everyone entertained with his mixes. Finally, the artists starting popping out on the stage, one at a time...Chubb Rock, Dana Dane, Special Ed and finally Monie Love and they all shared the stage, while taking turns spitting out rhymes. People were on their seat and if the weather had not been snowing, the roof would have been on fire! Kool Moe Dee and his crew followed and it seemed as though the flame had died a bit and much of the audience were seated and I guess, catching their breathes, but who were they catching their breathes for? The notorious, OG, prince of making money and disrespecting women, Too Short! I was a little bit out of my element as a 50's baby, which weren't called out, but by the look of the many people (women) who were standing and bouncing and speaking back to Too Short when he'd say his "favorite word", he was a favorite for these insane hip hop lovers. I needed a barf bag... Last, but not least, we were entertained by one of the first, all female hip hop groups from Queens, NY... Salt N Pepa with their DJ Spindarella back on the turntables! Although I believe it was past midnight, Salt N Pepa brought the needed energy...the crowd was still charged up and showing a lot of love for these sexy ladies. I was glad to have been in the building, although I originally was interested in seeing the legend, KRS-1, who'd bowed out after a postponed show.
