About

SUNN O))) IN CONCERT:

Noise metal pioneers Sunn O))) treat fans to a quasi-religious experience in concert with their heavy sounds and immersive, theatrical stage shows. At their live shows the band conjures up a massive wall of guitar textures that resonate through ticket buyers’ bodies, providing a visceral experience that matches the sonic intensity. Dressed in black robes, the band takes the stage as if preparing for a primeval sacrament, and frontman Attila Csihar furthers the mystic vibe with polylingual vocals that often resemble Gregorian chant. As the venue fills with fog, the songs progress from minimal riffs to decibel-shattering chords and culminate in an ethereal experience that’s unlike anything else in metal. Sunn O))) always floors ticket buyers with an unforgettable visual and aural experience that’s so bone-crushingly heavy it will quite literally move them.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Having taken their name from their favorite vintage guitar amplifiers, Sunn O))) make good on their moniker with a massive sound known for its thunderous volume. Though the band’s lineup has changed through the years, guitarists/composers Stephen O’Malley and Greg Anderson have remained constant since the group’s 1998 founding. After gigging for a couple years in Los Angeles the group made their recorded debut with ØØ Void in 2000, which featured a blend of extreme metal, ambient, and noise. Vocalist Attila Csihar joined in 2003 and added experimental vocals to the band's minimalist compositions on tour, and the group continues to collaborate and record with a wide range of vocalists and other musicians. Their sixth album, 2009’s Monoliths & Dimensions, featured experimental combinations of feedback, symphonic arrangements, and choral music, and was chosen by Pitchfork and Metacritic as one of the best albums of the year. The band continues to be a force to be reckoned with both at their larger-than-life shows and with stellar releases like 2015’s Kannon.

    A magical night

by Chocolate Cherry on 12/4/23Moore Theatre - Seattle

What a magical night. The staff at The Moore was excellent. Jesse Sykes, Phil and Bill provided a lovely opening. Earth preforming Earth 2 was heavenly. Sunn O closed out the show in epic style.

    Shoshin Tour Autumn 2023

by Justin R on 12/4/23White Oak Music Hall - Downstairs - Houston

Fantastic Experience. First time seeing the band live, and first time at the venue, White Oak Music Hall, both experiences came together for one of my favorite shows I’ve seen. The scale of the show was perfect, the acoustics of the venue were masterfully utilized by the sound crew and the set consisted of songs I knew very well and I was still blown away. Just as the concept of Shoshin would have me meet this experience with the eagerness of a beginner regardless of my familiarity, I had an awesome time.

    Body Altering

by Roman on 11/29/23The Belasco - Los Angeles

In the two hours it took the duo to overwhelm us with distortion, reverb, echo, and everything that a wall of Hi-Watts will do to a body, I felt my molecules were being rearranged. The entire experience was nearly religious. This was my second indoctrination to Sunn O))) and my buddy and I have made a pact to never miss an LA show.

    Boring

by No on 11/29/23The Belasco - Los Angeles

Boring and pretentious. Never again. The only somewhat saving grace was the light setup on stage.

Amazing show! Great staff! Not super accessible from a disability standpoint. Need to make bathrooms accessible.
