About

STREET DOGS IN CONCERT:

Classic Boston punk rock bares its teeth any time Beantown mainstays Street Dogs take the stage. The project of former Dropkick Murphy's singer Mike McColgan, Street Dogs have serious cred with punk fans, and their live shows live up to their reputation for hard-hitting, no-holds-barred showmanship. McColgan is an adrenaline-fueled force of nature in concert, whipping ticket buyers into a frenzy with his livewire energy and rowdy sing-alongs on anthemic cuts like "Fighter" and "Do or Die." The rest of the band is a well-oiled machine, bringing an air-tight musicianship and breakneck pace to their performances that keeps fans thrashing from start to finish. For a straight-up punk show full of attitude and oi!, Street Dogs always deliver the goods.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

After two brief but bright years fronting legendary Boston punk outfit Dropkick Murphys, Mike McColgan left the group in 1998 to pursue his lifelong dream of becoming a firefighter. He joined the Boston Fire Department and spent several years with the brigade, but the pull of music proved too strong, and in the early '00s he formed Street Dogs. The band recorded demos in 2002 and dropped their debut album Savin Hill in 2003, and the following year McColgan took a leave of absence from the fire department to focus on music full-time. The move paid off – the band's 2005 sophomore album Back to the World was a critical hit, leading to a stint on the Vans Warped Tour and outings on the road with major punk acts including Social Distortion, Bad Religion, and Millencolin. The band maintained a prolific recording and touring schedule for the rest of the decade, embarking on several Vans Warped Tours and sating their loyal fans with blistering albums like 2008's State of Grace and 2010's Street Dogs. Since then Street Dogs have continued to tour sporadically while also pursuing various side projects including the Americana band FM359, which features McColgan and two other Street Dogs members along with former Dropkick Murphys guitarist Rick Barton.

    Crazy and cool as usual

    by R. E. on 12/18/18Brighton Music Hall - Boston

It's great after all these years in punk rock and hardcore, these bands still play smaller venues with joy. Some bands complain they dont receive the same respect as more popular bands or get paid as much. Not these guys. They are there to work, to share, and to give. They love what they do, they are what they do. It was Awesome seeing Lenny up beside Mike. Slapshot went up before them and totally exploded the stage. There is no "old days" with Slapshot- everyday has been the same with the same intensity. The best pit I have seen or been in in a Looooong time. I miss the good ol stuff. The pit was real, not a bunch of little emo ninja wanna bees with short tight pants. Most of these guys/ Men had their work clothes and work boots on. Mike surfed the crowd a couple of times. I haven't left a show exhausted and satisfied like that in years. Amen

All the bands were great, and allowed me to see some a hometown band from Boston in Philly. The Foundry could work on the placement of their speakers, sound is not optimal in the Foundry.

Darkbuster rocks! / Street Dogs were fun

by SkullnRoses on 12/20/16Brighton Music Hall - Boston

I rarely miss a chance to see Darkbuster. Altho the set list varies little, each one is a beer-fueled, shout along which grabs you instantly. Lenny Lashley is a real renaissance man - playing in both bands - along with drummer Paul Soscia. Street Dogs were fun. Even for me who is barely a casual fan, I recognized a bunch of songs: “Savin Hill”, “Punk Rock and Roll”, “Not Without A Purpose”, ”Jakes” , “Tobe’s Got A Drinking Problem”. And they threw in a surprise Bad Religion cover. Finally the mini-set of Dropkick Murphys tunes (“Front Seat”, “Caps and Bottles” “In the Streets of Boston”) in the encore, and finishing with ‘Borstal Breakout” was a treat!

Street Dogs, Devil's Brigade, The Interrupters!

by SanClemental on 3/17/14House of Blues Anaheim - Anaheim

Every band was amazing and fun, the crowd had a great vibe, the music was great! The Interrupters were a surprisingly good opener, young musicians with a great presence. The guitarist's dad played a trombone/trumpet type of instrument on one song, and the entire band had a closeness that really showed on stage. Devil's Brigade kicked ass, the band has a great energy with super talents like bass player Matt Freeman. There was an appearance from Tim "Timebomb" Armstrong that took the entire evening over the top, we were psyched to see these Rancid guys on the stage, it was a great kicker for an already sick Devi's Brigade show! The Street Dogs topped off the night with an energy that built off the opening bands and took it up another level. They played a good mix of songs and the lead singer was constantly mixing it up with the audience as he kept coming down off the stage into the crowd. The entire show was great!

    Wreck the Halls--great show!

by DrunkenClam on 12/24/13House of Blues Boston - Boston

So glad that the hiatus was a short one. Wouldn't quite feel right without a Wreck the Halls show. Street Dogs were solid from the get go. Good to see Tobe back in town, although he appeared to have some equipment issues. Lenny Lashley rocks! sooo cool to hear some Darkbuster thrown in there.. Great show..
