    Somewhat disappointing

by bozfan2 on 10/28/14The Wonder Bar - Asbury Park

I am a fan of Steve Forbert, but this show was just uneventful. The sound quality was very poorly engineered. The bass drowned out most of the other insturments. Steve, himself, just didn't put forth and effort to make the sound quality better. Maybe it is just that I have seen far better acts over the last few years, that this concert seemed weak. He has plenty of good material, but every song lacked a punch. The record versions are far superior to the songs played during this concert.

    THE NEW CHICK

by neilsky on 10/28/14The Wonder Bar - Asbury Park

Having sen Steve Forbert many times over the years, I thought the addition of this blonde young lady to his band was the worst ever. Her trumpet playing was awful, she sang off key and added nothing to the show. Steve was much better during the days he played solo. The band, except for the lead guitarist who was fabulous added nothing.

    Terrible!!! Worst ever

by Ronatk on 3/3/14Duling Hall - Jackson

The worst concert I have ever attended in my life I am 54 years old and I've been to many concerts. But by far this one was the worst. Not sure what was wrong with him but he was very on organized and even at one point he said Merry Christmas which is good in December but not in February. He did not play not one hit song he was asked many times by the audience who sat there bored to play a hit he refused and said it was his show he played what he wanted. And kept asking a member in the audience what time it was so he would know when he could stop playing. Terrible definitely a waste of money. We got up and left during the concert and I apologize to the people I had brought

    folkie at his best

by KenD on 12/2/13Union County Performing Arts Center Hamilton Stage - Rahway

Seeing a great songwriter in an intimate venue is always a great experience. Forbert has a way with words and an interesting stage manner. His guitar playing is quirky and interesting. At this show he played a number of songs from his debut Alive on Arrival, a fair number from his most recent album, and a good selection of songs in between. Although he encouraged the audience to sing along and clap, his idiosyncratic style was not always suited to this kind of participation. Overall a very enjoyable evening.

Do not miss the opportunity to see Steve

by volkerm on 12/2/13Union County Performing Arts Center Hamilton Stage - Rahway

My wife and I saw Steve Forbert at the Union County Arts Center on November 29, 2013. It was a great show. He playing old and new material with exuberance and enthusiasm. We would go see him again in a heartbeat. If you get the chance, run, don't walk, to see him.

    Timeless Troubadour

by KML410 on 7/21/11The Ark - Ann Arbor

Just an amazing feeling to be in such a small venue with Steve Forbert. The Ark gives the best experience of an intimate concert. Where else can you go to be so close to the performer. Steve has had a long career, yet remains under the popular radar. So many of his songs could be on the airwaves. The concert he gave was just perfect. By audience reaction, he only played two songs that were either brand new, or otherwise obscure. The crowd knew every song, and participation was encouraged. I hope to catch him again at the Ark very soon.

    He's Still That Kinda Guy

by RobertZimmerman on 7/18/11The Ark - Ann Arbor

Caught Steve performing at the Ark this past weekend. The venue, which is intimate, was about 2/3's full. I couldn't help but feel sorry for Steve for the so-so house, but it was what it was. Steve performed solo - just a guy with a guitar, a selection of harmonica's, and the occasional boot stomp. It was hard not to notice all of the empty seats given that Steve performed with the house lights up. (After a couple of songs I went and asked a volunteer if the house lights would get turned down and was told that they were on at Steve's request.) Steve did not let the empty seats get to him and was in good humor, chatting amiably after most songs. If you were a fan I would imagine that you left happy. At the same time, I doubt he made many converts. Highlights for me included The American in Me, When the Sun Shines, and the obligatory Romeo's Tune. But, undoubtedly another attendee would probably list three different songs. It's hard not to root for Steve. Odds are his best days are behind him, monetarily speaking. He needs your support. He gives an honest performance with no ego. Check him out - you'll be glad that you did.
