Bravo and a well-deserved standing ovation to all

by Syringa on 1/15/15Town Hall - New York

The St. Petersburg State Symphony gave one of the best performances I have ever heard in my life. They played beautifully from the opening to the encore. The orchestra was stunning and spectacular. Marc Peloquin gave an equally unforgettable performance on the piano. The musical director did a superb job selecting the works and contributing to a spectacular program. I was especially impressed with the orchestra's beautiful performance of Robert Degaetano's concerto, which featured many breathtaking moments. I will want to listen to the concerto again and again to fully appreciate this brilliant work.

    St. Petersburg Orchestra rocks

    by musiclover63fromIowa on 3/8/12STEPHENS AUDITORIUM - Ames

Their sound was well balanced, their intonation impeccable and they played with one mind (entrances and exits perfectly together). The conductor's interpretation of the music was beautiful. I can't say enough about the Chopin 2nd piano concerto. The pianist was flawless in his rendering of this piece, which is one of my favorites. The Prokofiev 5th symphony was a difficult piece and one that I was not familiar with. They made child's play out of it and I want to hear it again. I walked away from the concert wanting much more. The St. Petersburg State Orchestra supplied me with a perfect muscial evening and gave me the "symphony fix" I craved.

    Tchaikovsky St. Petersburg State Orchestra

by Wyckoffreviewer on 2/25/12BERGEN PERFORMING ARTS CENTER - Englewood

The acoustics at the Bergen Performing Arts Center are challenging. Stage space for larger orchestras is also an issue, limiting audience sight lines and also effecting acoustics. The first selection from Wagner's "Tristan und Isolde" was pleasant but uninspiring. The audience seemed to warm to the second piece, Beethoven's "Piano Concerto No. 2". There is no mistaking Beethoven's powerful thematic forays. The acclaimed pianist Alexander Pirozhenko, was technically excellent but appeared stiff and curiously lacked passion. The final piece, Mussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition" was very well executed. The orchestra played with great precision and passion, energizing the audience.
