Snake Rattle Rattle Snake @ Bluebird

    by Finster63 on 8/22/11Bluebird Theater - Denver

I went because a friend had invited myself along with several others to the show for her birthday event. I arrived during the 2nd opening act; they arrived between Atom Collins and the main event. I had never seen SRRS before, nor heard of them before I received the invite, and deliberately had avoided looking them up on You Tube or anywhere else. I believe in my friend's taste, and the size of crowd only bolstered my confidence that I was in for a really good show. Well, everyone can't be right all the time. After a few songs, I began to have a sinking feeling that the experience was going to be a hit or miss affair at best. The songs I had heard so far sounded so much alike I had to take my cues from the band as to when one ended and another began. The lead singer, very attractive in a black sparkly dress and long brown hair, proved to be not terribly captivating or fun for a rock chick, which is what I was expecting and hoping for. There are just so few these days. She seemed reserved and slightly uncomfortable when not singing; I was hoping for confident strutting and some hair-swinging, but while extremely loud, the songs did not inspire such behavior, and her dancing seemed at times awkward and out of time. Perhaps it was my placement in the space, but I couldn't understand more than a few words in each song; what's worse, I didn't really care that much. But it was good to see my friend, who, along with apparently lots of other people, seemed to really like this band. And for whatever reason, the audience was loaded with good-looking women, which is never a bad thing. But it wasn't why I went to the show, and if this is Denver's best local band, I think the Denver music scene must be kind of lame these days.
