About

SMALL BLACK IN CONCERT:

Brooklyn-based indie darlings Small Black are the future of ethereal dance pop. At their captivating live performances, they band delivers an experience that's just as fun and upbeat as their recordings, inspiring feverish dancing with electro-synth jams like “Breathless" and "No Stranger”. Whether they're getting lost in the music or taking the time to interact with the audience, Small Black are a must-see live act that'll have hearts pumping and heads bobbing on their latest tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Small Black was formed in 2008 by friends Josh Kolenik, Ryan Heyner, Juan Pieczanski, and Jeff Curtin in their hometown of Brooklyn, NY. The release of their 2010 breakout debut New Chain led to extensive touring and major critical praise, and the band quickly proved they were leaders of the next generation of chillwave pop. The group has made several festival appearances ranging from Austin's SXSW to Barcelona's Primavera Sound Festival, building a reputation as mesmerizing performers in the process. The band released their sophomore LP Limits Of Desire in 2013 and will treat ticket buyers to tracks from the album along with older fan-favorites at their upcoming shows.

    Authentic, relatable and smooth

    by Refrus14 on 2/23/24

Small Black put on a great show in Houston last night. The show had a big sound, and an intimate feel few bands can duplicate. The sound was spot on, as were the non-electronic instruments. Josh can still bring it 10 years later, with the minor exception of the high melodic notes on Canoe -- still sounded great. Great job guys! Enjoyed it!

Great bands but let down by venue

by Jelea on 10/25/23Bowery Ballroom - New York

Visited from another country to see the support band Geographer, he sounded great as we were near the front, but there were definitely sound issues that could have been solved by an engineer, the bass drum would overpower the other sounds and also turn the vocal mic into a robotic voice changer. We stood near the back for Small Black, we couldn't hear the words clearly and the lighting was bad, we couldn't actually see the bands faces as they were mostly back lit. I have been to venues of all sizes worldwide and this was one of the worst venues for live music. A positive note is that the staff were friendly and bar service was quick.

    Extraordinary!!!

by Manu on 10/24/23Bowery Ballroom - New York

We are French and were delighted to attend Small Black's magnificent concert in Bowery Ballroom. They are a very radiant band on stage, and their music remains emblematic of our times, but with something really "timeless "that can only be found in great classic bands. Their melodies will always be linked to our trip to NY. We look forward to seeing Small Black in Paris!

    Awesome time, weird drink rules

by Richard on 9/12/21Brighton Music Hall presented by Citizens - Boston

I had an amazing time with my friends at this show/venue. There was plenty of space for people to sprawl out wherever they pleased, the drinks were good except the “no double” rule. Other than that it was a very clean and nice time. Would recommend to anybody! Just don’t order a double drink. Haha.

The show was good. Not much social distancing, but everyone was masked up. Worthit.👍

    Snowmine should headline this venue!

by Olivetti on 4/16/14Bowery Ballroom - New York

I really enjoyed both Snowmine's and Small Black's performances, but Snowmine should certainly be headlining this show on their own! Snowmine's set was so thrilling from start to finish and revealed their musicianship and true talent. With a perfect balance of vocals and irresistible dance beats, every song was a joy to listen to. It was clear that the crowd wanted an encore, so maybe next time with Snowmine headlining, we will get one!

These guys put on a great show in Boston. Their new album delivers a ton of energy to the room and they have never sounded more put-together as a band.
