    Disappointing

by HugeCCRFan on 7/1/13Cabaret at Theater Square - Pittsburgh

Skipping nearly all of Stephen Sondheim's most popular songs this revue was very disappointing. The show concentrated on lesser known and absolutely obscure songs that Sondheim wrote including some that were cut out of shows and songs from shows that lasted less than ten performances, in essence shows that flopped. All of Sondheim's songs from West Side Story, except one, were omitted, ridiculous! This show was like going to a concert and the artist or group only plays a few hit songs and the rest of the performance plays obscure songs or new material that the audience has never heard. Quite disappointing.

If you love Sondheim, you'll love this show

by Anonymous on 6/10/11Signature Theatre - Arlington

This was an adaptation of a review first produced in Londin in the 1970s and, thus, is mostly early Sondheim. But it includes many of his best songs expertly performed (even by the understudy we saw in the male singer's role). Some songs from "Follies" were better presented here than in the current Kennedy Center production of that show. I missed some of the best: of his creations: "Ladies Who Lunch" and "Could I Leave You" (sung in London a man). The piano team was also excellent. A "must see!"

    by jack3481 on 5/30/11Signature Theatre - Arlington

Extremely well performed. Thirty song done with the framing of the story of Sondheim and what is role was and is with the broadway theatre and musicals. An thoroughly enjoyable experience and a wonderful venue at the Shirlington's Signature Theatre.

Side by Side gets real close

by CCLDC on 5/30/11Signature Theatre - Arlington

Perfect relaxing evening. I learned about Sondheim while having a wonderful time. The actors were on. Each song was played/acted to the end. The facial gestures matched the mood even when their singing was over.
