    Don't go to the restroom!

by Underwhelmed3 on 12/4/15Kahl Theatre - Shawnee State University - Portsmouth

We attended a musical in the Kahl Theatre. My daughter went to the restroom during the Black Box Theatre Performance and was told she could not reenter until the performance (which had no intermission) was complete. She has IBS. She brushed past the lady at the door anyway to return to her seat and handbag that was left there. Upon leaving the theatre she was met w/ a SECURITY GUARD to escort her out. How embarrassing! Was told that it was announced prior to the performance that you could not leave and reenter. Did not hear that announcement at all. Was treated terribly by the person running the theatre that night! AWFUL! I spoke w/ her myself and I really felt she was trying to make an example. If they wish for family members to go to these performances they may want to rethink the no restroom policy. WOW!

Overacting Taken to a Whole Other Level

by FrancescaOH on 10/7/13Kahl Theatre, Vern Riffe Center, Shawnee State University - Portsmouth

We have enjoyed these SSU drama department shows in the past. Last year they did some comedies, which they did in an over the top kind of way, but because of the nature of the shows, it was okay for the most part. This show was a serious show. The acting was so overdone it was uncomfortable and embarrassing to watch. Everything was done at high volume, in a grandiose way unbecoming of an intimate theatre setting. If it was one or two actors, it might be forgivable. But the entire cast behaved this way, so clearly the blame has to rest with the director/producer who took it in this direction. We may try one more, hoping they fix it, but if it goes this way again, we'll be walking out very early.
