Fine Performers, Fine Performance
by FairfaxPete on 5/18/15Freer Gallery - WashingtonWhile the auditorium is not the best in the city, the Shanghai Quartet certainly demonstrated they are among the best of their type. The program was a bit stodgy, but all three pieces were well played and thus worth hearing. I first learned of the Shanghai Quartet many years ago when I purchased a copy of their recording of the Ravel string quartet which was included on the program. Hearing it played live was by itself worth the trip to hear them. The new piece by Lei Liang was interesting, worthy of hearing again. The conclusion was a fine rendition of Beethoven's Razumovsky #2. All in all an enjoyable evening and one I hope to repeat the next time the Shanghai Quartet plays in the DC area.
