SHAKEY GRAVES IN CONCERT:

Stripped-down folk rock act Shakey Graves has long been a favorite in his native city of Austin, but lately he's been making waves far beyond the borders of the Lone Star State. Taking the stage with a jerry-rigged drum kit that includes a suitcase, Shakey Graves, a.k.a. Alejandro Rose Garcia, captivates audiences with a variety of idiosyncratic techniques including unexpected tempo changes, drastic register shifts, and his off-kilter lyric sensibility. Whether he's crooning on "Built to Roam" or creating an intricate percussion backdrop on "Roll the Bones", Shakey Graves always satisfies on his unforgettable tours.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Shakey Graves is the one-man band of Alejandro Rose Garcia, an actor turned singer-songwriter who launched the project in 2009 while living in Los Angeles. After cutting his teeth in LA's eclectic underground folk scene he returned to his hometown of Austin, TX, where he quickly became a huge local draw with his unique performances at venues on and around artsy Annie Street. In 2011 he released Roll the Bones, wowing critics with his creative, lo-fi take on traditional folk and receiving a nod from NPR, which named him one of ten artists fans "should've known in 2012." He followed up with the Donor Blues EP in 2012, a bluesy slice of poetic folk that drew another round of praise. As renowned for his one-man performances as he is for his recordings, Shakey Graves continues to stun on his must-see tours.

Should stick with what he's good at

by Phoinixbird on 11/22/23Old National Centre - Indianapolis

Shakey Graves should stick with what fans loved in the first place and not his new stuff. Went to see a folk music and ended up at a bad rock concert. Also, why was the whole band dressed up like Ghostbusters??? Venue was great and staff did a good job!

The show was excellent. Would recommend. High energy and audience interaction through out. Great venue, felt small and intimate but with stadium energy

    Great Night

Excellent venue, great viewing and sound quality. Only real issue is that it can be hard to get to the bathrooms then back to where you were standing.

    Shakey Graves and Rayland Baxter

by Jose on 11/22/23Old National Centre - Indianapolis

Absolutely loved this concert! The opener was amazing and opened me up to another band to be a consistent listen for me. Shakey overdelivered on his performance a put on an amazing show. Both bands delivered great messages and questions to ponder. Couldn’t have asked for more!

    super fun!

by momwhogoestoconcerts on 11/22/23Old National Centre - Indianapolis

This was the last show of the tour, so this review won't help others, but if you are able to go back in time, go to this show! Rayland Baxter rocked it as an opener and Shakey Graves killed it! I had been trying to see Shakey for a few years now, and wasn't disappointed! I'd see both of them again for sure!

    Not Impressed

by Scott Moen on 11/21/23The Sylvee - Madison

I was not impressed with the performance. He lacked stage presence (opening act - Ragland Baxter - was better) and the song choices were not the best. Very slow show with only a few of his folkish songs in the middle. However, the Sylvee is a great venue to watch a concert…would go there again!

    It keeps getting better

by Steve on 11/16/239:30 CLUB - WASHINGTON

This is the fifth time I have had the pleasure of seeing Shakey Graves. Each show has been better than previous. This performance was sharp. As usual, Shakey immediately connected with the audience. His performance along with that of his band is almost hypnotic. He is responsible for the high level of energy. Great experience. Whenever he is within 3 hrs drive, I will go to hear him.

Someone give that light tech a raise

by H. Horseradish on 11/14/23Massey Hall - Toronto

This was by far the best show I’ve been to this year. So much about Massey hall makes it the perfect venue for a show (with the bottleneck at the bar being the one major drawback) and Shakey is an incredible performer, his band is amazing and the light show was absolutely mind blowing. This show was high energy at parts and heartfelt and entertaining and I wouldn’t hesitate to go again if given the chance.

    Best concert!

by Janesome on 11/14/23Massey Hall - Toronto

It was the best concert I’ve been to in a long time, the venue was smaller so it felt more intimate and Shakey Graves put on one hell of a show!
