Seinabo Sey was born in Stockholm to parents of Swedish and Gambian descent. At age eight she entered a music program for gifted teenagers, receiving education in Western music traditions that complemented the exotic musical styles she learned from her father Maudo Sey, a respected West African musician. She linked up with producer Magnus Lindehall and in 2013 she released her debut single ìYoungerî. The song generated significant buzz online and charted throughout Europe, including Norway where it peaked at No. 1. Several more buzzworthy singles followed and in 2015 she released her debut album Pretend to a No. 4 spot on the Swedish charts. With a Swedish Grammy under her belt, serious performance chops, and a tour with X Ambassadors bringing her to North American audiences in 2016, Sey is well on her way to global pop stardom.
