About

Much like Five for Fighting or Dashboard Confessional, Secondhand Serenade is the project name for a solo artist, singer/songwriter John Vesely. Raised in the San Francisco Bay Area in a musical family that included his professional jazz musician father, Vesely spent a number of years playing bass in local bands before picking up the acoustic guitar and refocusing his attention on composing original material. Rather than releasing the new material under his name, Vesely chose to group them under a different moniker, Secondhand Serenade, which paid reference to the notion that all his autobiographical songs were directed first and foremost to his wife (and thus made the rest of his audience bystanders to their pas de deux). Vesely recorded his debut album, Awake, in 2005, originally self-releasing the disc and selling it online through his MySpace page and iTunes. Internet buzz led to a deal with Glassnote Records, who released an expanded version of Awake in February 2007. ~ Stewart Mason, Rovi

    Secondhand Serenade 12/8/2021

by Cris on 12/12/21Marquee Theatre - Tempe

We had a pleasant experience despite the small understanding about our balcony seats. We had to have a manager sign off on our seats. Also, Ticketmaster did not state in the emails that I received that only clear bags would be allowed into the venue. I had to leave my small backpack in my vehicle and I had to purchase a clear bag from the venue for $1. I am not complaining about the price of the bag but I would have liked to have known this ahead of time. I would have used my own clear bag and left my backpack at home. Thank you.

    Always amazing

by Er on 12/11/21Marquee Theatre - Tempe

This was the 5th time that I've seen Secondhand Serenade in concert. He is always amazing and the show is always so entertaining. He used a few different guitars throughout the show. He switched from an electric guitar to an acoustic guitar depending on the song. At the end of the show, he played the piano and sang a couple songs. He is one of my favorite singers and I look forward to seeing him in concert again.

Best Concert I've Been to in a Long Time

by Yesenia on 11/20/21Brighton Music Hall presented by Citizens - Boston

I remember listening to Secondhand Serenade back when I was in 6th grade and honestly, I was wondering if I'd resonate enough with them at their concert now and wow, I was blown away! The opening acts were great. The band itself was AMAZING -- really connected with the audience. The music was just great and it was just better than I could've ever imagined, especially for a concert post-COVID. The facility itself also was great. Really nice intimate setting. Security was great and intervened when a concert-goer was a little too intoxicated. The beverages were good and just overall I had a really good experience. Definitely planning to go to a Secondhand Serenade concert again and hopefully to more intimate concerts over at Brighton Music Hall.
