The LOC auditorium was great for a chamber music concert. Every seat was great in terms of being able to see the performers and hear the music. The Scharoun Ensemble performed wonderfully. They were clearly in sync with each other in every respect. A delightful afternoon.
In a year of stellar performances, this may be the year's best at LC. Beginning with an infrequently heard Dvorak octet played with amazing musicianship, that was followed by the Schubert octet, a too infrequently played masterpiece and the signature piece of the Scharoun Ensemble. It was such a stellar performance that even the best recordings pale in comparison. It is amazing when a string quartet plays as if they are a single instrument expertly played by a virtuoso. It is doubly amazing when an octet delivers such a unified performance. The Ensemble is considered one of the best in the world, and it is not difficulty to hear why it is so highly regarded. Bravo!
This a fine ensemble. They play with tremendous energy.
