About

SAWYER FREDERICKS IN CONCERT:

Folk singer-songwriter Sawyer Fredericks crooned his way to first place on the 2015 season of The Voice while just 16 years old, becoming the youngest performer in the show's history to do so. Since then he's lived up to the outsized expectations that came with his win, impressing critics with his major label debut and bringing down the house with his soulful performances on tour. Fredericks is a precocious talent whose voice and songwriting skills belie his youth, and his world-wise blend of folk and rock has a timeless quality that continues to resonate long after his Voice victory. Taking the stage with his signature long locks and bowler hat, Fredericks performs a mix of covers and finely crafted originals that showcase his stirring voice and serious guitar chops. The Voice judges had Fredericks pegged as a star the moment he arrived on the show, and ticket buyers will have no trouble seeing why as he delivers his impassioned sets on tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Sawyer Fredericks was home-schooled on an Upstate New York farm and began receiving voice lessons at age 11. Within a few years he was performing at local community events and farmers markets, and in 2013 he self-released his first studio album Out My Window – at just age 14. Fredericks' talent didn't go unnoticed – in 2015 he auditioned for The Voice and immediately impressed all four judges before joining team Pharrell. His road to victory saw him cover everyone from John Lennon and Al Green to Goo Goo Dolls and Ray LaMontagne, and nine of his performances reached the iTunes Top 10. Following his win Fredericks released a self-titled EP, and in 2016 he made his major label debut with the album A Good Storm. Both the EP and the LP reached No. 2 on Billboard's Folk Albums chart, promising big things to come and drumming up major excitement for his first headlining tour in summer of 2016.

Best band in the world imo

by pizzatherapy on 6/7/18City Winery - Boston

My favorite thing about Sawyer is that it's hard to pick a favorite song. Each one contains a piece of his heart because you can tell he sings what he wants, and not what we want to hear. He has a very unique perspective. The band was really great. The music was so atmospheric and soothing. I wish it never ended. At the end Sawyer happily greeted fans and took photos. I met a middle aged woman who flew from Florida and went to all of his shows. A middle aged couple drove from Canada and they didn't even speak English that well. I saw a couple of teenage girls, but there were mostly older people in the crowd.

    Sawyer's songs were great!

by NorthAllegheny on 7/22/17Birchmere - Alexandria

Haley Johnsen and Gabriel Wolfchild, who opened, were each a joy. But Sawyer was the star with great new songs not yet published

    Interesting Show

by MissViva on 7/22/17Birchmere - Alexandria

Haley Johnsen opened the show. Her voice is pretty and flawless and her songs are well-written - I will definitely buy her music. Gabriel Wolfchild and the Northern Light. They are a "Mumford" band in the style of Arcade Fire - lots of nuanced sound with a calming vibe. I don't recall them playing 'Runaways,' my favorite of their songs. Sawyer Fredericks headlined. I saw Sawyer at the Birchmere last year as well. Not much has changed. Such a unique voice and stellar guitar talent, but he doesn't engage much with the audience, except when there are pauses for him to tune his guitar. Musicians often have two or three guitars tuned so they can switch between them and keep the show moving.. He performs several songs from the forthcoming new album and some are immediately likable. He didn't explain the meaning of most songs, which would have helped. Most are dark, so it would be nice to hear an optimistic cover or two thrown in. 'Not Coming Home' is one of his best but it's played TOO slowly. The show would have been more upbeat if other musicians joined Sawyer for a song at the end. I hope some more thought will be put into Sawyer's show in the future since I am a huge fan and want him to be around for a long time.

A very special evening with Sawyer Fredericks!

by Anonymous on 3/16/17Swyer Theatre at The Egg - ALBANY

I am in my fifties. I watched the Voice and rooted Sawyer all the way to the ending minute. I felt a connection with his sweet manner (and loved his way beyond his years voice) as I also have a sweet 16 year old. I really had no idea who would win. It was very exciting to see him pull through to win. I thought I must see him sing in person at least once so when he came to the Egg, I grabbed the tickets and brought a friend. I was so excited for him and his blooming stardom. He was just as I expected he would be - humble, sweet, and that amazing voice. He will grow and be a star. One downside he sang many slow ballads - as he grows as an entertainer he will learn to mix it up and sing both slow ballads as well as upbeat tunes. I wish him the best. He is on his way :o)

Swyer Theatre was excellent venue for Sawyer

    by Durango03 on 12/7/16SWYER THEATRE - ALBANY

First I must mention the opening act. Gabriel Wolfchild and Northern Lights was an unknown act for me. I do believe that I have never had a better first impression of a band performing all original music. Gabriel and his group grab your attention with the sincerity of their unique style of music. The blend of guitars, synth, bass, percussion and brass wind instruments enhanced the vocal performance of Gabriel and his musical family. I look forward to hearing them again soon. Now, Sawyer. He is definitely maturing into a better performer. He was right at home at the Swyer Theatre. He communicated better with the audience and you got the feeling that it was important to him that you enjoy his music. He sang with emotion that was truly genuine. His band was spot on and you could tell they were having fun. I was pleased to see Art able to showcase his bass skills on a few songs. He also seems more comfortable on stage. All in all, a great night of music in the Egg!

Sawyer Fredericks - Alexandria VA 9/4/16

by CurtBoteler on 9/8/16Birchmere - Alexandria

I was really looking forward to this show, unfortunately it fell a little flat. The music was average or a little better, but disappointingly he did not play any of the songs that everyone loved from "The Voice"! Sawyer does have an amazingly strong voice for a 17 year old, but he definitely needs to work on his showmanship, entertainment skills and engaging his audience. We were towards the back of the room and could barely hear him every time he spoke, or should I say when he mumbled. What we could hear once was his expressing a little boredom with his set list, in fact we left a little early because we too got bored.
