Saskatchewan Roughriders History

The Saskatchewan Roughriders are a professional team in the Canadian Football League (CFL) and one of the oldest professional North American sports franchises. Originally competing as the Regina Rugby Club in 1910, the team name settled permanently on the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 1946 before joining the nascent CFL in 1958. The Roughriders made the playoffs every year from 1962 to 1976, winning their first Grey Cup in 1966. Overall, the team has made 19 Grey Cup appearances, with four wins including 1989, 2007 and 2013. Across their history, the Saskatchewan Roughriders roster has consisted of 20 Canadian Football Hall of Famers, seven Annis Stukus Trophy winners for the CFL’s top head coach and and four Most Outstanding Players, as well as four recipients of the Most Outstanding Canadian Award, six Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman Awards, three John Agro Special Teams Awards and two Most Outstanding Defensive Player Awards. The Roughriders’ rivalry with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers has led to two annual matchups between the traditional Labour Day Weekend game and the now-dubbed Banjo Bowl the following weekend.

Saskatchewan Roughriders at Mosaic Stadium

Rider Nation have been gathering for Saskatchewan Roughriders home games at Mosaic Mosaic Stadium since its opening in 2017. The 33,500-seat venue replaced the Roughriders’ long-standing home at the historic Taylor Field after eight decades. The spectator-friendly setting is complete with sunken-bowl seating and tiled panels that partially cover three sides of the field to protect from the Prairie weather. Fans set a capacity record at 33,506 during a 2019 Saskatchewan Roughriders matchup against rivals the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. In 2022, Mosaic Stadium hosted the Grey Cup for the first time, marking the fourth time the championship game was held in the city of Regina.

    Disappointed

by Mike on 10/10/23Mosaic Stadium - Regina

The stadium is awesome but the team needs to show up, way too far to drive to watch guys that don't care go through the motions

    Great experience

by AnnetteW on 10/10/23Mosaic Stadium - Regina

We went to Saskatchewan to watch our team, the Ticats, against the home team. The energy of the home team was palpable. Fans were friendly, with normal teasing for the opposition. Even when we won there were no negative comments from the fans just well wishes. Mosaic stadium is impressive. Overall a great experience watching the Riders and Ticats. A true CFL experience.

I’m still waiting for the light show

by lashbera on 9/18/23Mosaic Stadium - Regina

Light show was a disappointment, maybe it was better for the 1/4 of the fans that took the day off and were able to get there early enough to get glasses. Game was over and I was still waiting for a light show.

    Best Labour Day Game...EVER

by Bup on 9/7/23Mosaic Stadium - Regina

No better place to be than Regina on Labour Day weekend. Game was amazing, crowd was lively and we came out with a huge victory. Glad I got to share the experience with couple of buddies.

    Saskatchewan Roughrider game

by Kevin on 9/6/23Mosaic Stadium - Regina

Good and exciting game. Give it a 5 star. Reason for average rating is concessions and lineups to get food or drinks. Give it a no star. Game a 5 so people will want food and drinks. Good luck as you will miss half the game standing in lineups. They had no bottled water left at the concession i went to in the 2nd quarter. It was over 30 Celsius. Oh ya and it took me 20 minutes in line. I will not be back

    Enjoyable

I enjoyed my rider game on July 15tn. The seats were great. Even though we lost the entertainment was still enjoyable. The staff both at gates and concessions were very friendly. Also liked the Happy Hour.

    Beer

by ManinPil on 6/19/23Mosaic Stadium - Regina

Mosaic is not being used to it’s potential for just the Riders. Riders stink these days, let’s get some better entertainment in there. However, you will always have a good time in Pil Country.
