We were thoroughly entertained by the Jazz Competition. We were especially appreciative of the assistance granted by staff, as my mother has limited vision. But $4 for a bag of potato chips? C'mon NJPAC
Best contestants, best audience, best organisers! Best price and venue
The Sarah Vaughn Jazz Vocal - Sassy Awards was simply wonderful. Great talent, with a special treat from the incomparable Dianne Reeves.
The competition gets better every year. It was a historic night: The first male winner of the contest and he was amazing. The jazz trio that accompanies the singers should really take the trio on the road. They are wonderful musicians. How do you top that? Well, you surprise the audience with a set featuring Dianne Reeves and Christian McBride. A true night to remember. Can't wait until next year.
This was an exercise in witnessing pure talent. I intend to bring more guests next year. This should not be missed if you love jazz and good vocals.
My daughter and I have been attending Sarah Vaughn Jazz Vocal Competition at NJPAC for the last 7 years. It always is a special event for us, and we look forward to it every year. It's very enjoyable, and sometimes the outcome is surprising, like it was this year. NJPAC is a great venue for this event. We look forward to many more years to be able to attend this wonderful concert.
The performers were all very talented and their Finale was beautiful; however I predict that Lauren Scales will be the next great jazz vocalist. Although the winner as well as the first runner up were very talented, they played it safe and stuck to the old standards and channeled Sarah Vaughn. Lauren Scales, on the other hand, dared to be innovative and displayed an amazing vocal range. When the musicians got lost during her final performance, she showed amazing stage presence and adaptability for one so young.
It was my 2nd time at the event and was as the 1st, just amazing to see the talent on stage. The small theatre venue made for a warm feeling between the performers and the audience.(from the audience perspective at least)
We love to be there. It's always very exciting to listen to the Vocal Singers and I find it hard to tell who is the best.
