About

SARA WATKINS IN CONCERT:

Singer-songwriter Sara Watkins has been a prolific creator of finely crafted, heart-on-sleeve country and folk music for the past two decades. In addition to being a founding member of progressive bluegrass group Nickel Creek she tours regularly with indie darlings the Decemberists, is one-third of the all-female trio I’m With Her, and has released several albums of her own. Whether she’s playing with one of her groups or taking the stage solo, Watkins is a stunning performer known for her dulcet-toned voice, phenomenal fiddling skills, and evocative songwriting. From the heart-rending lyrics of gems like “You and Me” to her virtuosic fiddle playing, Watkins always captivates ticket buyers as she delivers her enchanting brand of progressive bluegrass on tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Sara Watkins got her start as a performer with Nickel Creek, an acoustic bluegrass trio formed in 1989 in her Southern California hometown of Vista. The group released six albums between 1993 and 2006 including the 2000 breakout album Nickel Creek, a platinum-selling masterstroke that earned two Grammy nominations. In 2009 Watkins released her self-titled solo debut, an auspicious record that peaked at No. 13 on the Billboard Heatseakers chart and led to extensive touring alongside artists like Tift Merritt and Donavon Frankenreiter. She followed up in 2012 with her sophomore album Sun Midnight Sun, which landed at No. 11 on the Folk Albums chart and earned her a spot on tour with Jackson Browne. Since then she’s remained a staple on the bluegrass scene, forming the trio I’m With Her with singer-songwriters Sarah Jarosz and Aoife O’Donovan and joining Nickel Creek in 2014 for a reunion tour and album.

    These ladies are so talented!

From the harmonies, to the instrumentals, to the individual talent of each of these women, I’m with Her is a trio made in heaven. Every song was dynamically crafted and rendered with so much heart and soul. Loved watching them work together and hearing their creations. I’m with her is definitely my favorite band right now.

    OUTSTANDING SHOW

by LyricGuy on 2/7/17Ponte Vedra Concert Hall - Ponte Vedra Beach

I went to this show expecting a good performance. Sara Watkins is very talented and I was blown away by the talent level and musicianship of her band. The vocals were spot on and they could not have been any tighter musically. This show far exceeded my expectations. I never got to see her in Nickel Creek (and she only played 1 N.C. song) but I am so delighted that my wife and I were lucky enough to sit on the first row for this show. Don't pass up a chance to see her. It was special.

Sara was awesome as usual! I brought my sister-in-law and she saw Sara for the first time and has now become one of her newest fans! The Venue was not my favorite, but Sara could sing anywhere and I would come.

    Sara Watkins- Blueberry Hill

by MuzicalMatt on 4/21/12Duck Room at Blueberry Hill - St Louis

We really enjoyed the performance. Life after Nickel Creek agrees nicely with Sara and Sean and the dynamics and vocals were beautiful. Next time though, let's shoot for a venue with seats and some better acoustics. Maybe the Old Rock House again. Blueberry Hill is fine, but is really a Rock Show kind of place.
