ART ALIVE FLOWERS - NOT TO BE MISSED

by Saskiala on 4/16/12San Diego Museum of Art - San Diego

Wonder amongst the flower arrangements that reflect different painting at the San Diego Museum of Art once a year. It is a MUST SEE event if you live or visit San Diego in April.

    Art Alive is a must-see

by Woofette on 4/15/12San Diego Museum of Art - San Diego

Always aromatic, always surprising. Art Alive is one of those events when two different artistic forms blend to create something unexpected and delightful. View the painted masters represented in flowers OR see how a living arrangement reinterprets the classics. Either way, it's good-smelling eye candy.

    Big Disappointment

by CopperP on 4/15/12San Diego Museum of Art - San Diego

After fighting weather & traffic, parking too far to walk to the Museum of Art I arrived Friday afternoon for my first time to see the “Art Alive” showing. I was very excited, as a new floral designer myself I thought it would be so much fun. I had been to the Bellagio in Las Vegas just a couple weeks ago and to my surprise found out in their Atrium was a framed picture of art that copied a Monet painting. This work of art had been recreated in flowers and plants and framed just like a regular painting. It was absolutely awesome to see. I stepped inside the Art museum hoping to find similar works of art and found nothing but what I would call abstract art, there was very little I found to be well done let alone a good representation of what it was to duplicate. I don’t know if the “Art Alive” showing has a different theme each year, one can only hope. For myself, I will not go back unless I find out in advance the theme was more like the one I had seen in Las Vegas. For your viewing and understanding I have uploaded a photo of the art I saw in Las Vegas I used as comparison in this review.

Hands-on art lessons with take-home value

by AMRav on 3/12/12San Diego Museum of Art - San Diego

I loved the event! Well organized and filled to the brim with content. It was a small challenge to find the location, maybe a little larger sign? I approached the front doors twice before I saw it. The instructors had so much to share and were so willing to offer anything and everything for take-home. I took pictures of examples to supplement the guide. The guide could also have used a page of notes with each lesson. I found the notes at the very back afterI'd already written all over the pages. Love the Art History with each lesson. Could have been shorter for the Adults with more time for completion of the project, or expand the duration of the program by an extra 30-40 minutes. Loved it, Love Art, Love SDMA

Educator's Art Faire brings creative inspiration

by Anonymous on 3/12/12San Diego Museum of Art - San Diego

Look forward to this event each schoolyear! Love the chance to go to art class like my students do! As a parent volunteer in our schools art program this program gets my creative juices flowing. Love to get inspiration in this class for projects for my son and his classmates. Only downside is that I never quite finish the projects in the time alloted but that's okay. I have fun finishing them at home. And, then I'm motiviated to bring the kids down to the museum to check out the current exhibits!

    Amazing Experience at the Museum!

by Aranea on 3/2/12San Diego Museum of Art - San Diego

What a fun opportunity to be in the museum after-hours when all is peaceful, and then to experience a rejuvenating yoga class. Thank you, SDMA!

    Museum's presentation was great

by JCMichael on 2/5/12San Diego Museum of Art - San Diego

We had seen Midnight in Paris previously and had enjoyed it very much. But the experience of the pre-showing analysis of the art of the period and the relationship to the era of the movie created a whole new, enjoyable experience. With the exception of the seating in an auditorium not made for movie viewing, I recommend future showings at the museum.
