About

Ryan Humbert in Concert

Northeast Ohio native Ryan Humbert has always been something of an old soul, yet his uplifting concerts reveal an irrepressible youthful spirit. Though he's recorded in Nashville and shared stages with big names like Train, Chris Isaak, Third Eye Blind, The Zac Brown Band, Elvis Costello, and Foreigner, he's continued to stay true to his Ohio roots – building a loyal, local fan base with his dynamic mix of rock, pop, and Americana.

As a child, Humbert was drawn to his father's CD collection, gravitating toward iconic singer-songwriters like Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Emmylou Harris, and Lucinda Williams. He eventually pursued his own music career, playing shows in the Akron-Canton area before heading to Nashville to record his 2008 debut album, ‘Old Souls, New Shoes,' with help from members of the Dixie Chicks, Counting Crows, and The Black Crowes. In 2018, he would celebrate that album's 10th anniversary with a newly remastered deluxe edition, and a major concert in Canton featuring a string quartet.

Throughout the preceding decade, Humbert released two more albums, 2012's ‘Sometimes the Game Plays You,' a heartfelt folk-pop set, and 2014's introspective ‘Half Way Home.' Outside of his solo releases, he wrote and produced songs for local artists like Tracey Thomas, and sang in his own honky-tonk band, Shooter Sharp & The Shootouts. He also started hosting the Sunday morning show ‘Shooter Sharp's Americana Roundup' for Akron/Canton and Youngstown radio stations, and has organized several events, concerts, and fundraisers throughout the region.

By far his most popular musical and local fundraising event has been the annual Ryan Humbert Holiday Extravaganza. In 2018, he returned with his 10th extravaganza, hosted at the Akron Civic Theatre, alongside longtime singing partner Emily Bates and a 12-piece big band. It's at these big, joyous events that Humbert truly shines, showcasing his candidness, charisma, and anthemic chops in the name of a good time and a good cause.

Great concert, balcony seats not comfortable

    by Kim on 8/4/23

I love these artists and was so happy to attend their 20th Anniversary concert. The show itself did not disappoint! And I like this small theater venue. My only complaint was that the high top stools for the balcony seating were very uncomfortable.

    Fabulous

    by Kathy B on 7/31/23

Ryan and Emily gifted the audience with a stellar evening of musical entertainment . I also enjoyed the guest appearances of musicians had/have contributed to their success the past years . I look forward to performances to come. Ryan has a rock star voice dueting with Emily’s soulful and angelic harmony.

    The Performance was 5 Star!

    by GeorgeG on 7/31/23

The intimate setting and the sound of the room was excellent despite a few technical issues. The performance by Ryan and Emily, as well as their musical guests, was well worth the 4-hour drive. Our only issue of the evening was the very cramped seating. The chairs were very narrow and too close together. The male guests to our right and left were clearly uncomfortable and literally had little choice but to 'share' a portion of the seat adjacent to them.

    20 Years of Music Personified

    by Dahmia on 7/31/23

As soon as we heard about this concert we bought tickets - happy to say it was everything we had hoped for with the song writing/performing Ryan alongside the lovely songbird Emily. The guest performers were an extra bonus. It was very moving when Ryan shared a song he had written after his mother went Home to be with The Lord. Even their covers of iconic performers such as Carole King's song made popular by the Everly Brothers was a real treat. Sorry if you missed this show and if you were there you know how great it was for this 20 year celebration of Ryan and Emily's performing together.

    Great Holiday Show

by susieb4547 on 12/24/15Akron Civic Theatre - Akron

This was my first experience at a Ryan Humbert Holiday Extravaganza and it certainly met all my expectations. This year's theme was "Country Christmas", but many standards were mixed in to make it a show that would appeal to anyone. Ryan's voice is superb and his stage presence is great. His backup band, "Hillbilly Idol" was perfect. The band members are all very talented and lent a casual, laid back feel to the show. Emily Bates was also very talented and the duets with Ryan were very easy to listen to. This show was small scale (on the stage of Akron Civic Theater) but certainly put you in the Holiday spirit! It was a benefit for the Muffins for Mammograms program at Akron General Hospital....a very worthy and needed program. I will attend this show next year and highly recommend it!
